Disabling internet access on a wired connection

I just switched from a wireless to a wired internet connection due to speed issues. However, with a wireless connection, you can turn off the internet access while the mac is still on. There does not seem to be a way to do this with a wired connection short of unplugging the plug from Mac. Is there a way to disable the wired internet access while keeping the Mac on?

comptalk,

Open System Preferences>Network. Unlock the padlock at the bottom-left corner of the window, if necessary.

The first pane that you will see lists your various "Network Port Configurations." Select the one in question (in this case, it would be "Ethernet"), then click the "action menu" below the list (it looks like a gear). Choose "Make Service Inactive." Done.
