What does mail days to sync mean?

Hello,
I have an iphone and use Exchange. It was working fine until I updated to the new Iphone software. Now some strange things are happening. There are events showing up that shouldn't be (on the wrong days). I was told that the mail days to sync might be a problem. Any thoughts? And what does mail days to sync mean and what should the setting be set at?
Thanks

There are two settings of interest:
+Mail days to sync+ (how many days back the device will show email for)
Sync (how many weeks or months back to show events for)

Sync is found in Settings->Mail,Contacts,Calendar->Sync

+Mail days to sync+ is found in Settings->Accounts (account name)->Mail days to sync

The settings should be based on your own personal preferences and needs.
