Ok, 3 days ago my iPhone started giving me this random message about "this accessory is not compatible with iPhone, do you want to switch to Airplane mode"? So, I thought it was a minor glitch or something and tried to power off and restart my iPhone, but it won't power off! no matter what I do, it re sets, keeps giving me this error message (even though nothing is plugged into it) and sometimes says " no service", sometimes lets me make a call, but then the other person can't hear me. It gets crazier everytime I try to do anything with it. I'm so attached to this thing, I'm scared that I have some crazy virus and it's crapped out now. I just tried to restart it again and it keeps trying to power off, then flashes the apple logo over and over. Oh, and it will not charge correctly or show up on the iTunes when I try to sync. HELP

You need to put your iPhone into recovery mode and do a restore. Somewhere along the way you plugged something into the iPhone that it didn't like. A restore should fix your problem.

*make sure you backup all of your contacts/data/music before you restore.

I have restored the settings on the phone itself, is there a different way to reset it? Can I do the complete restore without access to iTunes - it won't recognize anything I plug it into (have only ever plugged it into the computer and the wall charger)and doesn't show up on iTunes when it's docked with the comp. Obviously I'm not the brightest crayon in the box when it comes to all of this stuff, but I would like to try to fix this with out having to take it to an Apple store, it's too far away. Your help is greatly appreciated!

You will want to turn off the iPhone. Next Press and hold the home button as you plug it into your computer with the iTunes account your iPhone is registered with. This will force it into DFU mode and you can do a complete restore to factory settings.

OK, tried what you said, several times. It still won't show up on the iTunes as plugged in. - iPhone won't respond to the home button and but doesn't power off completely. it won't charge even though it's plugged in. I beginning to think the entire problem is that something is preventing it from powering off completely. It just comes right back on...

So you slide the red slider to the right to turn it off? Does the screen go black or does it go back to the home screen? Have you tried holding down the power button and the home button at the same time until the silver apple appears?

Yep, red slider and it it goes off, the comes right back on on it's own and shows the silver apple and then goes to sleep. tried holding down the power and home button at the same time and that's when the silver apple comes on and off on it's own. I'm telling you, it's like it's possessed.
