Apple TV disappeared

I have been unable to see Apple Tv on my iTunes for over a week, so in accordance with other forum discussions, I did a factory reset (apparently thereby losing the TV shows and movies I had purchased), removed Apple TV from the list, unplugged everything, waited 30 sec and restarted everything. There is still nothing User uploaded file The network is functioning, I can see the trailers. Everything is connected via Ethernet. Under preferences, look for Apple TVs is still checked and there is no apple tv listed. How do I get this solved!?

Do I need to uninstall iTunes first and then reinstall?

I wouldn't know if reinstalling itunes is the answer, it's probably best you diagnose the problem if you can before altering anything, are you able to connect the tv directly to the mac to eliminate the router.

If you want to reinstall itunes, see the article below on removing it first.

Unfortunately, the Apple TV is in another room and I am unable to connect them directly. They are connected via dLan (ethernet over mains) which has always worked perfectly. The modem is connected vis dLan as well, and the apple TV sseems to be able to access the internet perfectly fine, so that can't be the problem, I don't think.
What a pain! But judging from all the other discussions in all of the other forums, I am not alone in this issue.
Any more suggestions?
Thanks
