UAD plugins

So I am doing a final mix of a somewhat complicated song (think Sabbath's N.I.B. mixed with Django Reinhardt's Minor Swing) using UAD plugins (Fairchild/Pultec/Neve bundle/Cambridge EQ).

They are pretty d@mned awesome. So if your sig other asks what you want for Christmas...

That is all.

MacBook Pro, Mac Mini, Logic 8, Apogee Duet, Rig Kontrol 3,, Mac OS X (10.5.5), Telecaster x2, Hodson503S, Gibson SG, Gibson Les Paul, Artcore bass, 3 cats

Yeah, I have the Neve bundle, of which the 88 is a part. Of the neves. though, I've used the 1073 the most -- on vocals bus and on the master output. I also swear by the Pultecs to get that heavy John Bonham sort of drum sound, which is essential for one sort of music I do. Also on the master out I use the LA-2 limiter and the precision buss compressor. I like the fairchild compressor for drums on less aggressive songs.

A bit strange as well. - considering the popularity with imac's.

Not at all.

iMacs, like Macbooks are considered "consumer" machines. Mac Pros and Macbook Pro's are machines designed more for the working professional, or serious amateurs, and hence they have considerably more expansion potential and features.

UAD cards are not the kinds of things that average consumers buy, they are professional items. And not only that, they don't make a FW UAD card for a number of reasons, and as FW is the only way you can add things to an iMac (apart from USB), then if you want to be able to use these things, an iMac is not the best choice of machine.

So there is no way to use UAD with imac?

As I already said, there is no way to use UAD with iMac.

HI Folks,

there is a way 🙂
- Just get any PC or mac with PCI slot
- Install the UAD plugg
- plugg your uad card in the machine
-Install Wormhole2 ( http://plasq.com/wormhole) in your imac
- run Logic etc... you'll see Wormhole
- Whormhole will help you to find on the PCi machine the uad plugg
- select your best plugg (max 3 or 4)
- enjoy using UAD power within you imac
Only one thing! It couldn't synchronised pluggs over 44 or 48 khtz
So don't work over 48 khtz for any project you want to use the UAD pluggs!
Hoep this will help you all mates!

mmm
it is not so professional... and max 3 or 4 pluggs (Uad plugins require great bandwidth ... only one Neve Compressor require about 30% of uad-1 DSP!!
... are not sufficient for a mastering section...
The latency should be toomuch Ethernet Latency + UAD DSP latency.

Have you tried to use UAD plugin with wormhole?
Which Uad plug?
Neve 88RS?
Pultec Pro?
Neve Compressor?
Moog envelope filter?

I don't think that they can work with wormhole!

how about UAD authorization?
The uad plugs must be run on the machine where UAD-1 (or 2) card has been installed in the PCI slot...

So, the better way should be to use the PC (in order to use fully UAD DSP power processing) ... and not the iMac!

UAD-1 or 2 cannot run on iMacs in any case.

BUT: there is a way... Logic Audio Unit menager allow to use UAD plugs as Logic NODE... but you must use a Mac (also a G4) with PCI slot as Main Machine.

I never test that... is like a little mystery, but UAD-plugins pass AU validation also for Logic NODE function.
