Strange error message

I just got a new Ipod cause I couldn't get my 15GB one to work. Now, I'm getting the same error message "Attempting to copy to the disk "NAME'S I" failed. An unknown error occurred (-69), on the new one. I've tried everything that Apple has recommended on this site, nothing works!

I have had the same error on my 4th Generation click wheel ipod, i've tried everything from formatting the ipod, reloading the latest ipod updater and itunes, different usb cables, different usb ports and syncing the tracks individually jut in case there are currupt tracks within the library and still no joy. It always seems to bomb out when syncing around the 2gb stage.

Can anyone help?? I'm off to Australia in a few weeks time and need my ipod to be working!!!

Same problem here. Tried Reset, Restore, changed cables, uninstalled itunes and Reinstalled. Nothing works. iPod updates first 13 songs and then the whole thing freezes up. Tried the diagnostic mode also. My windows pc tells me there is an error in the ipod drive or and unknown error in the ipod dirve. I don't know what else to try. any suggestions?

My brother is using a 20 gig iPod and is having the same problem. I bought an iPod nano, and updated his iTunes to the newest version (the only one compatible with it). Does this sound familiar? I heard someone that the new iTunes creates a bug in older iPod models... so the only way is to uninstall iTunes and reinstall the older model... But can the iPod 20 gig and iPod nano work on the same iTunes? Is there any common ground????

I've never heard of this one, but I've heard of a (-36) error. That's a general I/O error, so it is likely that this one is too. What that means in English is that you probably have lots of playlists, etc. on your iPod, which are really directories and subdirectories and sub-sub directories, as far as your computer is concerned. (True for both Macs and PCs) In the end, what happens is the path name directing the computer where to look gets too long. All computers have a built-in maximum path length of X number of characters and if you have too many directories and subdirectories, you reach that maximum and it causes an error. This is much more likely yet, if you use Anapod, as it is easy to create playlists and then playlists within playlists, etc. To fix it, reduce the number of playlists within playlists and shorten the length of really long song names.

Alternatively, one of these may have been corrupted. Try reformatting your iPod and then loading the playlists back manually one at a time, checking after each one to see if it work and deleting any that cause problems.

The other possibility is that there is a bug in iTunes to do with the size of the buffers. This actually seems quite likely given the number of people on this message board who seem to be running into buffer-related problems.

And Smiffy, try manually loading the songs after the one where it stops working and see if you can do it, just in case that one song file is corrupted.
