iTunes has stopped working

Every time I try to load iTunes (this randomly started today), I get a message that says "iTunes has stopped working" before the program even opens. Then, it instantly shuts it down. I tried to reinstall it by accessing Apple's website via Internet Explorer. However, every time i try to open apple.com or any of its related websites in Explorer, Internet Explorer quits working. It doesn't do this for any other website. I have Windows Vista on my computer and I have heard that the two do not interact well. My question is, though, how can i fix this problem? because i cannot update my iPod or purchase any new music, etc. if i cannot open iTunes. Thanks!

I'm having the exact same problem, and now I can't sync my iPhone. Very annoying.

I'm having the same problem and am running vista 64 bit. Unfortunately I can't try the 'deauthorising computer' fix as itunes stop responding as soon as it displays. Itunes 8 has been extremely unstable since I downloaded it onto my computer. At first it crashed occassionally, and then with more regularity until now I can't get it to do anything! It is so frustrating. I hope apple come up with a fix soon. I have ensured I'm running the one for 64bit and have uninstalled and reinstalled several times with no success. Arrrgh!

Yes, it is definitely the 64bit version of itunes....

Well, here's the latest - I opened itunes using a different library and all was well. I haven't had the error message since. Unfortunately I'm having to load all of my music again which will take ages, but at least it's not freezing now. I'd just love to know what happened? Also apple seem to not pay the slightest attention. There are so many posts reporting the same thing and no fix has been forthcoming.
