PC to Mac: Transferring music NOT WORKING!!!!!!

hello! perhaps i've been staring at this new wonderful new mac for too long, but i CANNOT seem to transfer my iTunes library from my PC to my new Mac. i followed ALL the instructions from the apple website ( http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1329). on my PC i have 6162 songs and when i transferred my music to my Mac it said something like 5200 (give or take). the way in which i copied the music was by copying the iTunes folder to my iPod (as a hard drive). then i plugged that into my mac and copied it into the "music" folder. i had to try several times to get some of the music to copy to iTunes. finally some did, but all the playlists were gone. the web site said that there was a way to copy everything including playlists. HELP HELP HELP HELP. i do NOT want to have to upload everything all over again from CDs!!

Hi. Sorry, I'm not responding to solve your issue, I wish I was, because unfortunately I'm in the same boat! Have you been able to figure it out yet? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

not sure if my suggestions will help as I've never had to transfer from PC to Mac.

but is there away to check your iPod to make sure your ~6K mp3's from your PC made it to your iPod "disk"?
That's my best guess on where items are getting lost.

Are they all MP3 formatted on your PC? (not sure if iTunes on a PC can play Windows media files or not...).

I've never had this problem so i'm sorry i couldn't help.

A while back (~2002) I ended up getting a external firewire HD for my mp3's as my library outgrew my internal Graphite iMac Hard Drive. It was a breeze when I upgraded from that to my current computer in 2004ish. But i went from Mac to Mac so....

Couldn't you just use the Classic as a removable disk drive? In other words, don't even do it via iTunes. Just drag all your music files directly to the iPod on your windows desktop then eject it, connect to your mac and copy all the files over?

Once you do that, you log into iTunes using your usual account and you are all set... right?
