Missed call before I have a chance to answer

I'm new here so I'll apologize if this question has been answered before but I couldn't find a reference to it via search.

I've had my phone for two days. Every time it rings, I grab it out of the belt caddy to answer but before I get a chance to it says "missed call". Is there a way to let the unit ring a few more times before that happens? I've even tried calling myself from a nearby phone and the same thing happens. Once I got a cryptic message that said something like "slide to turn off".

I really like all the features of the Iphone other than the fact that it doesn't work very well as a phone. The inexplicable lack of bluetooth voice dialing is baffling. Maybe someone can tell me when that feature will become available?

You may want to check with ATT to see if something is incorrectly set up with your account as far as the missed calls thing.

No one here knows Apple's future plans regarding adding features to the phone. There are apps in the app store that will allow voice dialing and some cars do. My friend has a Nissan Versa and he can do voice dialing with the phone as is. The Versa bluetooth apparently has voice dialing built in.

i believe you can call AT&T to lengthen the ring time before it goes to voicemail.

but are you doing anything when it says that you've missed the call? for example, are you trying to "slide to answer" and when you slide, you miss the call?

or is it possible you're hitting the sleep/wake button as you're grabbing the phone from your belt caddy? pressing once will stop the ringing, a second press will send it to voicemail- hence giving you the missed call message.

Thanks for the responses. When I try to answer the phone it usually displays "slide to unlock" but before I can finish sliding I get the missed call message. Maybe I should check with AT&T on that.

On the bluetooth issue, I am able to answer calls by tapping the button on my earpiece but I'm astonished that Apple didn't build in the calling capability the same way. I've tried *Say Who* and it works fine but I still have to physically make entries on the unit when I should be watching the road. Hopefully Apple will address this oversight ASAP.

What's the difference between talking on the phone on a hands free device and talking to a passenger? If anything, talking to a passenger is more dangerous, because you are often drawn to look at your passenger, which doesn't happen when you're talking on the phone.

I agree with the main point. A lack of voice dialing is rather stupid on Apple's part. Although I will agree that noone knows when it would, or even if it will be, implimented.

There is a very big difference and it is well documented.

Talking to a passenger is significantly different as they are aware of what is happening around you and on the road. Passengers temper their conversation and pause when driving conditions change or they can see that you require to concentrate. Passengers are far more aware of your state of mind and can and do adjust their behaviour. None of the above applies when using the phone.

Also next time you use the phone and talk to a passenger be aware of your state of mind. You will see that you have a very different focus. When talking on the phone you will tend to associate with the caller and lose connection with your own location. When talking to a passenger the opposite is the case.

My actual original point was not about actually talking on the phone, which is not illegal in the UK.
It was actually about operating a phone while driving which is very dangerous and illegal.

best thing to do,
start your comp, turn up iTunes go check if this is the current version?
click help > check for updates i think on windows!
once it says it is the latest version
plug in your iPhone, right click under devices (where it says your iPhone on the left pane) and select backup
once it says backup is done, click device again, summary tab, then restore
opt for RESTORE AS NEW iPhone <<<< this is important
after restore sync your iPhone with your iTunes
tada
you are be good to go
