How to Stop RSS Feeds

I do not want RSS, but suddenly I am getting a lot of Apple Hot News items.
I am sure I did not request them, but they are in my inbox every day.

iMac Intel Core 2 duo, Mac OS X (10.5.5)

I made the two preferences changes you suggested, and the Apple Hot News stopped for 4 days but started again today with four RSS messages. I checked the Mail Preferences and they have not changed.
Is there a way to tell Apple to stop? I have not found it.
