itunes 8 isscript.msi update

I've been trying to install the new itunes 8 for the ipod touch but everytime i do so it reads:

"The InstallScript engine on this machine is older than the version required to run this setup. If available, please install the latest version of ISScript.msi, or contact your support personel for further assistance."

I have installed versions 7,8, and 11. and each time i run itunes setup it continues to show the same message

i have all of the right computer software for this application, but it just won't install, and quicktime 7.5.5 installed perfectly fine

i've already deleted all the old versions of itunes on my computer using windows install cleanup... and now i'm left with no itunes

can anyone help? please?

It's a long time since iTunes used Installshield.
I guess there must be some remnant of an old uninstaller in the registry.

Could you say which version of Windows you are on (XP or Vista) and which service pack? Also do you keep your system fully up to date with the Microsoft updates.

If the Windows Installer is very old, the Installer cleanup program may not see iTunes - did you find an entry and remove it?

Which was the old version of iTunes you removed?

When you have an unusual situation you need to give precise information about your system, what you did and the results.

Taking a shot in the dark, you could try updating install shield to the latest version:

Try version 11 which is at the bottom of the page. Maybe having the latest version will allow you to get past the error.

I have windows XP Professional and service pack 3
and I regularly update my windows (with automatic updates)

I found an entry of itunes with Window's clean up and I did remove it

the version of itunes I removed was itunes 7.6.2.9

I used the link that you provided, and at first the installation went farther than it ever has before, but then still provided the same message of ISscript.msi not being update enough

That's very odd.

The last version of iTunes to use Installshiled was before version 7 so it is peculiar that you are getting this error now if you previously had iTunes version 7.

I am uncertain what to suggest next, there appears to be a setting in the registry that refers to an earlier version.

Maybe using a registry cleaner would help, but I can't help you with that so only try it if you are confident with that kind of thing.
