MacBook to 47 inch LCD Television

I am trying to figure a way to take what is playing (movie)on my MacBook and display it in high quality on my 47 inch LCD TV. I have the AppleTV, but can't around the syncing issue (port error) and want to figure out a way through cables to display a high quality from lets say iTunes when renting and playing a movie. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Mac OS X (10.5.5), MacBook

If your tv has a VGA input, you can get a displayport-vga adapter, a vga cable, and connect your laptop to your tv. I've been doing that for a while now...works out pretty well, though the tv sometimes seems to have trouble recognizing that the laptop is connected.

I think the picture is really pretty good. the resolution is good enough that I can easily read NYTimes sized print on my 42 inch plasma.

When I play a video file, it's about as good as standard def or maybe vhs. not great, but i'm not expecting blu-ray quality.
