Fixed with the aluminium ball...and there I was doubting the hokey pokey idea. Thought it was worth a try, however outlandish and it was. Thanks.
I just had my 2-year old aluminum keyboard stop working too. Thank goodness for this thread - even after all these years, this solution still works! Thank you to everyone who has posted here. Strange that a known issue that is years old hasn't gotten either a repsonse from Apple or been fixed in later devices!
I have to wonder about that lack of attention to this issue on the part of Apple, too. thank goodness for these support communities which help explain/remedy a lot of issues for all of us.
All hail the foil..........
Somebody needs to get on dragons den with that idea...........
I just rolled up a used staple pin and dropped it in - for those that don't have foil or springs handy. Works like a charm!
Just letting everyone know that the aluminum ball worked for me as well. So glad I came across this forum. Seems strange this has been happening for so many years. Love Apple, but maybe they should at least include an aluminum ball with the keyboard if everyone is doing it this way! Thanks again- it saved me getting a new keyboard.
Rolled up foil ball then flattened to a disc shape then popped in before the batteries worked a treat for me to! Sounds like a design flaw in this keyboard with the amount of foil balls there must be in a lot of them going by the replies here :-)
The "Alu foil ball solution" worked for me on the A1314 keyboard which no longer power on.
I could not see corrosion on the contact points, so my explanation is that over time, the spring pushing the bottom contact point up, looses its strength, resulting in a loose or false connection.
At least that is the way I explained it to myself :-)
Same problem, same solution. I put a metal screw inside and the keyboard is alive again.
Thanks to everybody unless Apple.
Electrically, it is safer to put the batteries in first then put the ball/disc of foil. That got me working.
Much appreciated!! After 4 different calls trying to reach someone at Apple to help me, I saw your post. I only needed one small ball for it to work like a charm!
Absolutely brilliant solution - kitchen foil! My keyboard has sat in the drawer for over 2 years because it wouldn't work and no one knew what to do! Thank you so much and well done 🙂
Small ball of tin foil trick totally works for 2-battery bluetooth keyboard, too.
Eat your heart out MacGuyver.
Thanks for the tip, folks.
Anyone have the problem after they got the green blinking light where it wouldn't get discovered?
I tried the aluminum ball hoping maybe that would help but apparently not. The stupid keyboard
worked fine for a couple of years and now all of a sudden it won't pair!
Any suggestions? other than buy a new keyboard of course!
Foil fix worked on my white 4-battery Apple Bluetooth keyboard. It also fixed my white Bluetooth mouse, which had been working but kept losing the connection to the computer. I'd thought it was due to a weak Bluetooth signal (a known issue with 2006 Mac Pro) but it turns out the batteries were losing contact when I bumped the mouse too hard. It's all rock-solid now.
Kudos and thanks to Kerni1976 for diagnosing the problem and to chadhouck for refining the solution (well, I like the aluminum foil better than the steel wool, anyway). I love the Internet!
