2.2 firmware update failed

aww.. that *****! Maybe you can take it to the Genius or something. They should be equipped to handle these issues.

same thing happened to me. I just finished to restore and synchonize all data (music, apps, contacts, and so on).
And same thing happened to me upgrading from 2.0 to 2.1.

sorry, I use Linux the rest of the time, but I need Win just for iTunes for the iPhone 😟

I use a limited account (not administrator rights), and I was able to restore only after granting administrator role to that account.
So, people who had same problem upgrading to 2.2, have you used iTunes on a limited account too ?
If yes, this maybe the reason of the problem. For sure next time I'll do upgrade directly with an administrative right account.

sorry to say but it doesn't work.

I am on a Mac and did the 2.2 update... everything went fine and the phone restarted. I then entered the PIN Lock code and iTunes tried to reconnected to the phone. Only problem is it won't. The phone remains locked asking me to connect to iTunes while iTunes tells me the SIM is locked and it can't connect to the phone. WFT!

I am less than impressed! I use my phone as the primary means for my clients getting in contact with me. Now it's looked and I can't received or make any calls. Luckily I have an iMate JasJam sitting around. But seriously Apple... perhaps next time you can spend a little more time on QA!!!

I am not sure what to do next. I have tried everything suggested on the Apple site and in this forum but right now I seem to have a AU$950 brick that's no good for anything. I guess I'll have to either try my luck with the Indian support drowns or better go to the local Apple store... I can already see a huge line of people with the same problem. What irks me is the fact that I am drowning in work at the moment and the last thing I have time for it to spend half a day at the Apple store trying to get my phone fixed.

no i didnt have any contacts or anything i had to start all over. But thats just because i pluged my phone into a friends computer first and never backed up my contacts and stuff.. im sure it will be fine for you guys to get all that back.

Just give up, and go buy something else?

I have a Mac and I have 3 PCs. I'm syncing my iPhone to a PC because I use it for work. It shouldn't matter that I have a PC OR a MAC. They (Apple) Make their software available for both Windows and Macs. It should work straight out of the box.

And, nobody likes to be told to just buy a different product because YOU say it is better. They both have their place and it's none of your business to tell anyone otherwise. This forum is here to help people solve their problems, not listen to other people tell them to just buy something else...

pretty much found the answer... well it worked for me anyway. desperate times call for desperate measures. give this a shot and let us know how it goes...

-shutdown itunes.
-plug iphone into usb.
-right click "my computer".
-click "properties".
-click "hardware" tab.
-click "device manager".
-click "universal serial bus controllers".
-right click "apple mobile device (reboot)".
-click "uninstall drivers".
-unplug iphone, do hard shutoff.
-replug iphone, wait for drivers to install.
-open itunes.

itunes will then recognize your iphone in recovery mode and inform you that it needs to be restored. follow the directions carefully, breathe a sigh of relief, and enjoy reuploading your music! =] hope this helps.

*hopefully you backed up your iphone before attempting the 2.2 update. otherwise, can't help you there. =/

I was able to get what I believe is part of the update on my 3G. I am not able to get street view, access updates in apps, and my signal keeps completely going into "searching" mode.

Here's hoping for a quick patch.

I don't think you can get "part" of an update.

Maybe go to settings / General / Reset, and reset network settings.

Then after it boots up, if its still searching, switch off 3G and try on
Edge.

With wifi, to see street view, search for some address that has streetview
and you will be able to access it. You may need to zoom in to see it.

Mines not work, on Mac either. Poor effort Apple. Now I can't downgrade back to 2.1 either.

did anyone try my fix? just curious if anyone was able to get it to work the way i did without any "genius" help.

I'm not sure if it'll work, but I think downloading the latest version of iTunes (8.0.2) first would be a better idea and then proceed to download & install 2.2

update failed!
waited for download
then iTunes got stuck while "backing up" but iPhone never acknowledged this
turn back on says its gonna install new iPhone update, select ok
it pretends to back up, but the iPhone slider never changes to "slide to cancel" stays slide to unlock
iTunes then informs me:
"iTunes could not sync ^0 to the iPhone "Ryan's iPhone 3G" because an unknown error occured (-19)"
what to do guys?
