having trouble with godaddy.com

i have a web site through go-daddy.com, i create my videos in final cut and want to host the vids on my web site. The site only recognizes mpeg, avi, wmv it does not recognize .mov file type. I also have mpeg streamclip. i know i can change the video format, but can i convert the file type from something i create in final cut pro to a mpeg, avi, wmv file type.... i am using quicktime conversion the web site only lets you use 30mb or less files. i have been trying h.264 my file size is good but when i play it on the site it wont recognize it. i have tried posting mpeg files on the site that were not created in final cut pro and they work fine, so i think it is just a matter of me converting it from final cut pro to a file the web site recognizes... thanks in advance to anyone that can help. i am a little confused, i understand how to change video format but not file type.. and if i just backspace .mov and put mpeg in its place it still doesnt recognize it.

If for some reason godaddy doesn't have the .mov MIME type configured (which is unusual, I've never seen a host that didn't) you can do it yourself. Assuming you have a linux hosting account, you can edit the .htaccess file in your public_html directory and add the line "AddType video/quicktime .qt .mov" without quotes.

The other important step is when you export your file, in the Movie Settings window, under "Prepare for Internet Streaming" select "Fast Start" or "Fast Start - Compressed Header" not "Hinted Streaming"

Final Cut Pro isn't limited to .mov files. Go to File > Export > QuickTime Conversion and you'll be able to choose AVI or MPEG as an option. If you have the free version of Flip4Mac, you will be able to export up to 30 secs to WMV format - if you want to export more than this you will need to pay for the Pro version (I think it's around $100).

It sounds like this is a restriction in GoDaddy's site builder so it might be worth speaking to them about it.

P.S. I wouldn't advise giving your login details to someone you don't know.

There are only about 1000 questions that need to be answered first to answer your question but I will try to be brief. I use Godaddy and have movies on my website. You problem is not your ISP. I have no idea how you create websites nor your experience in doing so. As such, there is not much help you will find here for video content website delivery. A forum related to web programming would probably be a better place for you to post your questions.

Me, I use Flash. I know that is a blasphemy on a Final Cut forum, but I am more interested in serving a broader market and 98% of the world uses Flash. Plus, I can compress in H.264 so the quality difference is not such a big deal anymore. Your file size restrictions will depend upon your ISP and what you want to pay for your service. If you want to deliver larger content, then either pay more or find an ISP that offers a better deal for what you are looking for.

i think everyone is over thinking this question i have.... i create a movie in final cut, i notice final cut uses .mov file extensions. my godaddy web site i use, its a pre made template site i use, i have created a page that allowys me to insert video, when i insert the video to the designated area its says godaddy does not allow .mov only uses mpeg, avi, wmv, mpg my question is when creating a project in final cut and it gives you a .mov extension and you need it to be mpeg, avi, wmv, mpg so that it can play on something requiring that, what would you recommend? the site only allowys the file to be 30mb so whatever compression i use, it needs to be able to make the file size to that...h.264 with one pass gets the file size right but again i am understanding the compression aspect but not the file type. i have inserted several files with mpeg extensions that were not created in final cut and they all work fine. I am not getting the web site to recognize the . mov. if you got the prompt can not use .mov must be mpeg, avi, wmv, mpg what would you do.... i have my project in final cut so you can walk me through it as if you had a open project in final cut. i assume it should go step 1. export to: ? and then adjust the different settings ? i noticed that final cut has some mpeg options, and i tried them but it didnt make the files small enough 30mb. is this a matter of converting my file to one that will work or am i needing to export it in a specific manner. Again i have successfully got multiple videos to work that have mpeg extension that were not created in final cut.

please if anyone replies to this question only answer the question yes or no i keep getting stories but no one answers yes or no. Final cut creates files with .mov extension, i am trying to post work done in final cut pro on my godaddy website, the site only recognizes mpeg,,avi, wmv, mpg i have tried just typing in the proper extension when i try to play it it doesnt work... is it possible yes or no to take something i created in final cut pro and convert in a way that will properly be recognized on a web-site that only recognizes mpeg, avi, wmv, mpg if you answer yes do you have any suggestions....and nothing in previous post have worked.... If someone wants a challenge i can give them directions on how to log on to my web site and they can try to do what i am asking there-self.. thank you i do hope that someone takes me up on the challenge, i have been on many forums and this forum by far always has the most informative and what i feel to be the smartest people i have encountered. thanks again for all previous replies.

I agree.... I've gotten flak from others at times because in using Flash I'm not supporting Quicktime, Apple, yada yada yada.... Personally I think you should use what works. I think Flash is actually quite powerful, and now that it supports h.264 quality is no longer a huge issue.

Flash is becoming a lot less relevant though. It used to be THE way to create flashy animated sites but now everyone's doing it with Ajax. The only thing it's used for now is online games and video, and HTML 5's new video tags will probably render it obsolete within the next 2-3 years with regards to the video side.

With almost 100% of the browsers in use on both Windows and Mac system having Flash Player/plugin installed, Flash video is still the most compatible web video delivery format available. Of course MPEG-1 is also very compatible but lacks the quality.

mpg and mpeg are mpeg2 extensions. Mov can be several different file types. Mov is not a file type, it is a Quicktime extension. It just tells the computer what program to open the file with. You can have any number of file types wrapped in an mov extension. You can also simply change the mov to avi if the codec is supported in that wrapper. You can't choose mpg instead of mov, but you can change an H.264 (default .mov) to .flv, but only browsers with Flash plug-in 9 will be able to play it. You can encode to wmv with Compressor, but that is just a wrapper as well. What is the codec you are compressing with. Then we can tell you what extensions you can use, or what you need to change.
