Unknown error 2131

I'm unable to burn music to cd using itunes. Burner works in conjunction with windows media player - although won't burn 'protected' music bought from itunes store. When i try using itunes, i insert blank disc and it comes up with - The attempt to burn a disc failed. Unkown error occurred (2131), as it spits the disc out. Phoned tec people, who eventually re-set my laptop to its factory settings, but problem has returned. Tec support said not hardware problem, but have never heard of this problem. Has anyone had this problem? ideas on what's going on would be great.

Really fed up with i-tunes, was going to buy my girlfriend an i-pod for christmas, not any more.

I didn't have any problems either until i made a playlist for the car. I'm sorry to say I have done everything to fix this problem , but nothing has worked. I reset my computer to factory settings and that worked for a bit, but the problem has returned. I'm going to try and transfer my music collection and use some other software package to manage my music, i'm that fed up. My next mp3 player will not be an apple one. I hope you solve your problem.

The 2131 error is associated with the TSST TS-L632* optical drive.
To find out which drive you have run your diagnostics for CD/DVD Drives.
iTunes Help>>Run Diagnostics>>CD/DVD Drive tests.

Toshiba and Dell have issued firmware updates to solve this issue. Unfortunately if you do not have one of these makes you are on your own. Some people have persuaded their supplier to change the drive.

Cross flashing is also a possibility but if it goes wrong it could wreck the drive.

I have the exact same problem. Absolutely evey detail you mentioned. I have an Acer computer and Vista and thought one or the other was the problem b/c it has never worked with this computer. I went looking for a solution to the error 2131 and bought and downloaded something called RegCure that assured me the 2131 error was a quick and easy fix. I paid the money and it did not fix the problem. I hate this. I've actually considered getting another computer except it works in every other way. Just don't by RegCure!

Hi, I too am having problems burning discs. I upgraded my computer a year ago and am now running windows vista. I have tried periodically to burn discs with itunes and get the 2131 error. You mentioned a fix if you have a Toshiba or a Dell. I do have a Toshiba....can you tell me how to get that firmware update? I have not yet run the diagnostics, but I will. I don't know what my optical drive is, I'll check that out too.
Thanks for your help.
