My iPhone 3G is stuck on the connect to iTunes screen and I can't do anything with my phone at all. I've tried holding home + lock key for 10 seconds and it starts back up - but stays at the connect to iTunes screen. Any suggestions? Just got the phone a couple weeks ago after I lost the 1st gen iPhone.

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.1)

I can't load my iPhone in itunes because when I plug it in it says "Please unlock your iPhone to use it in iTunes" - but I can't unlock it because it's stuck on the connect to iTunes screen.

Sorry I can't provide more help.

I don't know what country you are in, but you may need to call Apple or make an appointment at the Genius Bar.

You may be able to find more information with a forum search. I know this topic has been brought up before, but I'm not sure if there was a solution.

I hope you are able to get it worked out.

Same problem (running XP Pro on Laptop). During the update to 2.2, Itunes was stuck in "verifying updated iphone software 2.2" for hours. It seems the phone would just shut off and Itunes continued to display the message. I had to kill Itunes (it wouldn't close) and now cannot get the Iphone to start. When turning on it just sits in "connect to Itunes" screen and then turns off again after a few seconds. I just go this phone for biz and we were thinking about using it for the employees but if this is what happens with updates, I don't know. YIKES.

I live in California. I'll try to do a search but I haven't been able to find any resolutions. Going to a Genius Bar might be my best bet.

Same problem trying to update 2.2, tried 6 times now, Firewall turned off - get through install and then stops "Verifying iphone software" and loses connection with the iPhone.

I'm having the same problem. I can't reset, it either shows the usb cable to connect to itunes on my phone or low battery. In addition, my phone does not appear on itunes. I've uninstall itunes and ran it again, and it still doesn't work...any luck with anyone. My phone is completely locked! ugh!

This happened to me too. How I finally resolved the problem is with a complete shutdown, and restart of my laptop.

After I had done that, itunes "saw" the phone, and I was able to restore it.

    Good luck.

I have the same problem not related to the update though as I have not tried to update. Just turned on the iphone this morning it gave me the connect to items screen. I connected and got a message. "iTunes could not connect to iPhone becuase it is locked with a passcode. You must enter your passcode on the iPhone before it can be used with iTunes." Problem is I cannot enter the passcode becuase it is stuck on the connect screen. I leave 2hrs from the nearest "Genius Bar" so that is not going to help.

I hope someone has found a proper solution to all these questions. I am pretty savvy at this and I can't get it to update and reload.

Upgraded a friends iPhone to a 3G. While updating the original iPhone 2G he has gotten the same message where it states it is verifying for hours on end and never completes. He wound up having to close down and disconnect. Now he too has the USB cable and iTunes symbol on the iPhone and we are not able to restore it or back it up. This is starting to sound like a issue with the 2.2 software.

Some forums suggested to force close the iPhone using the top button. You are to hold it and DONT remove your finger until you connect it to the USB cable and iTunes starts to fire up. When the Apple logo appears on the iPhone you can release the button. This did NOT work for his issue. Any else have a suggestion.

I had the same exact problem. I was updating the iPhone software and had a timeout error. I rebooted my laptop a couple of times but couldn't connect to iTunes and the 'connect to iTunes' graphic would not go away. I ended up doing a complete shutdown of my laptop. I powered it back on started iTunes and then connected the iPhone. The graphic came back up and I then clicked the restore button. That seemed to fix the problem. Good luck!

Latest update: I spent about 2 hrs on the phone tonight with 2 different Apple techs. I have reset the Iphone, and removed iTunes and downloaded the newest version. Seems to be that the solution is going to be to a forced restore (hopefully), but I am still running into problems restoring. The connection to the software update keeps timing out. The guy at apple thinks the software update server is just to busy with everyone trying to update software. He suggested that I keep trying and he is supposed to call me back tommorow. I will update if it works or not.
