Black lines on ipod screen. Anyone else have them magically disappear?

In mid-october, I had a whole bunch of black lines appear on my ipod classic screen. My ipod was in pretty bad shape (screen was in good shape, but the body was scratched and corroded :-/) so I figured that Apple wouldn't cover repairing the screen and didn't bother to send it in.

Miraculously, once the lines grew from one line to like 8, they started to retract some. Over the course of a month and a half, I went from one line to 8 lines, and then back to no lines. All of the lines have disappeared.

Has anyone else had these lines disappear? I'm asking so that, if I'm not the only case here, folks who have this problem don't send their ipods off to apple only to be charged a diagnostic fee because they won't repair it (because thus, the problem will fix itself).

Any input would be much appreciated 🙂

I don't have lines that go from one side to the other. My "distoration" in groups of little clusters and short lines, seems clumped into one area. Some days are few and really short; while other times many and longer.

I would like some direction, as I was thinging of replacing the display until I read your reply. I might give it some more time now.

I have also had this same problem that originated just a few days ago as a small black line and has since grown and partially disappeared in spots. I have tried restarting my iPod and also restoring it, neither of which have done anything. I was very tempted to send it to apple to see it if could be repaired, but after checking this and seeing that it might go away on it's own, I'm hopeful it will do that. It also makes me feel better that I am not the only one with this problem. I had assumed that it was my fault that this had happened because it is relatively beat up and I've had it for about two years now.

I have read that one person was having green lines (vertical, if I recall correctly). And that you are having black lines. I am having white lines, horizontal. About a week ago I noticed one white line at the very top of the menu on the second space (under the word "iPod"). Then a few days later I noticed that there were two white lines very close together. (horizontal) I have tried to "reset" the iPod and that did not change anything. The only other option that I see in chapter 6 of the online user manual for iPod Classic 120MG would be to connect it to iTunes and do a "restore." I am hesitant to do that at this time because I have photo files that I have organized on the iPod. The double white lines are not that much of a problem. It just seems that something is not functioning properly. So...it is good to hear that a couple of people have just waited a while and the problem seemed to correct itself.
