ActivCard USB Reader 2.0 CAC Card Problems

Hello,

My husband works on a MacBook 2 GHz Intel Core Duo w/ 1 GB ram on 10.5.5. He had been on 10.4 but his hard drive died and with the new hard drive, we've upgraded his OS too. The only problem is that he's in the Navy and needs to use this CAC reader to access his email and a number of websites.

It was working fine on 10.4 and he used ActivCard Gold for the Mac. I'm pleased to see that we no longer need 3rd party software, but I can't get the Mac to recognize the reader in Keychain Access. I've loaded in the X509 Anchors, but that doesn't seem to make any difference.

I also have the new Parellels running and thought I'd try to make it work over there. So, I downloaded ActivCard 2.2 and installed it. But I can't get XP to recognize the reader. The USB device setup knows it's there. But when I run ActivCard Gold it doesn't see the device. So, we're dead in the water.

I believe that I may have to make it work on both the Mac side and in Parellels. But I'm totally stuck.

Thanks!
~Robin

Hi Robin Bertelsen-

Are there any OSX 10.5.5 drivers available? It is quite possible that the device will not work with 10.5.5.

Have you contacted the support department of the manufacturer of the ActivCard software regarding compatibility?

You mention that you don't need 3rd party software, yet the reader is not recognized. Puzzling. Have you tried another USB port?

Luck-
