iPhone Update 2.2 Drastically Reduces Battery Life

I just updated my 3G iPhone to software version 2.2. After making no other changes to the phone, the battery life has been reduced to only 4 hours (with no talk time and wifi still turned off). After plugging in the charger, it still took 30 minutes before the red battery/lightning bolt symbol disappeared and the phone restarted. What's wrong with 2.2(5G77) and when will a new update resolve the problem?

I am having the same problem. I am not getting any more than 4 - 6 hours on standby after updating to 2.2, without even using the phone. I have email fetch and WiFi turned off. It seems to take longer to charge, also, but I don't have an actual baseline to compare that to, just perception.

I had notice a dramatic improvement in battery life when updating from 2.0 to 2.1, and I have gotten as much as 36 hours of standby. But now, with the 2.2 update, my iPhone shows the low battery warning within just a few hours.

Change network settings from 3G to Edge. Much more battery and slower speed.

I changed network from 3G to Edge few months ago. I noticed that the speed difference will not make a difference for me. I have push emails from me.com and I surf the web and app store during the day and the battery at the end of the day is over 70%, maybe more. I prefer battery over connection speed.

One example: This Saturday a friend of mine and me went to play golf. I used my iphone with Fore! (4-5 hours) and at the end of the day I had more than 85% battery. My friend had ~40% (using 3G and he was not using the iphone). I made him change network settings.

Hope this helps.

Battery bug:
I have the same problem. I updated yesterday night to 2.2 and left the iphone charge over night. I took the phone this morning and went to work. I did not use it until mid day when I went for lunch. I wanted to check my emails and saw the battery was fully empty. I could not use it anymore. This was very frustrating. The battery life seems to have drained in only one morning when with 2.1 I rarely used half of the battery at the end of the day (and I checked emails, news and used the phone).
This need to be corrected very quickly as the phone is useless as it is. I would also recommend other users not to update while this bug is not solved!

Greetings,

I have notice the opposite, if anything, and I run everything on, and I get my two 12 - 16 hour workdays out of it, with my normal use, and I make a lot of calls. I don't play music on it, or SMS stuff, but the normal phone, calendar, and email stuff. I bought it to use as a, are you ready for this? - A phone.......Wow! It's a very very good one, at that.

No kidding, it all works well, and I've seen no degradation of battery life.

Cheers,
M.

Clearly, some owners of the iphone are experiencing a drastically reduced battery life while others don't. This might indicate that the problem is device specific and depend on the manufacturing date or something like that. In any case, a serious problem exists and need to be addressed rapidly. It might be useful to indicate the iphone type and manufacturing number. Mine is white and while I bought it in France in July, I need to get it recharged before I can access its manufacturing number...
