I am unable to delete old email from my mailbox. When I try to delete mail either by touching the trash can or selecting multiple emails then the delete button, I get a message saying "Unable to move message to trash." Help please!
I'm having the exact same problem! I'm able to delete my gmail and yahoo mail, but work email from my company's work email servers are not responding. It started immediately after I had upgraded to 2.2 and then accessed my work email. I even rebooted the phone and nothing was resolved.
I'm having the same problem. I am unable to delete a mail message in my AOL inbox. The error I get is "Unable to Move Message" "The message could not be moved to the mailbox Trash."
My advanced settings for Mailbox Behaviors show "On My iPhone" for "Deleted Mailbox"
But when I go into the Mail Application, I do not see a Trash folder there. (To be honest, I can't remember if there was Trash folder there or not before I upgraded to 2.2)
My Gmail account still lets me delete mail on my iPhone and it does show a Trash folder.
So perhaps this is the case of the missing trash folder?
HA! Now I am able to delete mail from my AOL inbox and now the Trash folder shows up! Interesting. Perhaps this was an IMAP issue that was on the server.
I went into settings email and then the account I was have trouble with (AOL) changed option from deleted items to trash to a different folder then clicked back on trash problem solved.
Here's a simple solution: tap "Settings" on your iPhone home screen; tap "Mail, Contacts, Calendars"; Under Accounts tab "youremailadress@aol.com" Mail; Slide the Account ON / OFF slider to OFF; wait 30 seconds (really wait 30 seconds, this is important); Push and hold your iPhone Home and Power buttons at the same time until your iPhone resets.
Once your iPhone comes back on: follow the same steps above: Slide the Account ON / OFF slider to ON. Your email will fetch and delete even faster then before you installed 2.2.
I'm having this issue with my Yahoo acct. on my 3g Iphone. I tried deleting the acct and adding it back in. I followed the instruction here related to resetting the trash folder on the iPhone as well as disabling and enabling the acct and resetting all to no avail. Any ideas on how I can get around this? I didn't have this issue until I updated to v2.2
I was able to fix the problem by deleting messages via yahoo mail's web page. Once done, I went on my iPhone to pull down emails (via wireless connection) and once the syncing was done, everything worked.
I too cannot delete my AOL mail since updating to 2.2 I have tried deleting the account on Iphone and restarting the phone...without success. The trash settings for AOL it set to "Trash" by default. Not sure what else to try...
Have you tried going into the email settings for the account take the Advanced option, and have a look at the mail box behaviours for each of the Drafts, Send and Deleted mailbox? I found they where pointing to the iPhone not the IMAP server directories.
Point each to the relevant server directories and it should work!
