My Power Mac G4 Won't turn on

Hi, Experts.
My G4 has problem. After I put it asleep, its power has gone and it won't turn on. When I press the power button, the light is on shortly and very short sound ( not chime but mechanical). I tried reset PMU already and thought the battery has problem, so I changed new battery. Actually, this happened the day before yesterday and yesterday suddenly it turned on for several hours and when I turned off, it won't turn on again. Any idea will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Actually, when I press power button, the sound is the fan. The fan works shortly.

Is the startup problem you are having with the Powerbook G4 you list ion your profile, or with a G4 desktop?

Hi, Tom
I have both powerbook and power mac. It is problem with desktop. When I press the power button, the light is on(as far as I keep pressing it) with fan working half second.

Tom, I can't do anything for your first suggestion, since it won't turn on. For your second suggestion, I tried already in vein.

Did you try the battery out of the holster, let the machine sit over night, and then replace battery and try to power up trick? You have to have a lot of patience with computers. They are a pain. And.... they can't be explained. 🙂

Nekotsan,

I have the exact same issue with a Quicksilver. I did all the PRAM battery and CUDA button suggestions too. No chime, just a CHrrrrrrrr r r from the fan and that's it. Check to see if there is a red light coming on from the mother board.

Mine isn't and I'm trying to decipher if that means mother board or power supply. My tip off was bad ram. I just got the unit and it had bad ram. Then it never started up.

Check for the light.

Same problem. Started after I added two cards one for USB2 and one fire wire 800 and I swapped out a bad CDRW drive for a new super drive. I changed the battery and have pressed the PMU (?) button on the main board. Computer starts! Sometimes if I unplug unit and plug back in the unit starts. My problem only occurs when I shut down not at sleep.

Can anyone help us?!!!
