Not possible to combine two mp4 movies into one file

I try to combine several MP4 movies into one file (first "select all", then "copy" and then trying to past it at the beginning or end of the other file.
But the "paste" brings any previous item that was cut/pasted/copied. It can even be an URL! So why doesnt Quicktime copy the file? Is there a size limit for the copied file?

Mac OS X (10.5.5)

Are the two files the SAME video and audio codecs? E.g. one is not Sorenson and the other is say H.264? If you have QT Pro and the files are the same format then copy , cut and paste are all like you expect them to be, vs. what you seem to be getting. I haven't seen file size limits but I would not want to go over 2GB per clip.

Also when copying an entire clip, you do "select all" first right? (Or select some range to copy with the in and out points I/O?) You have to select something to copy, not nothing at all. CMD+A to select all, CMD+C to copy, CMD+V to paste into the new or other player window.

I have the same problem... I arrived here at this discussion after a google search. I am running 10.5.6 on a new 24" iMac. *No mp4 (h264) file is able to be copied to the clipboard*; there is no problem with mov files. The mp4's I am trying to combine are segments of a movie... I want to combine the segments to burn to a DVD.

I do this every day with Quicktime. Open in Qtime, separate players of course. If necessary, save as to put them in MOV containers or if you edited them at all then save as to save a new version with the edits.

Open the one to be at the front, set the play head to the end. Open the 2nd in a new player and do select all, then copy then go to the first player and pste. CMD+ keys are +A (all) +C (copy) and +V paste.
