Does Restore remove the firmware upgrade??

I asked this before with no reply. Does any one know the answer?

Also, since all my apps and music are on iTunes then I can just sync to get all them back on phone after restore correct?

What about contacts? They are on sim card right?

When restoring your iPhone with iTunes, your iPhone is erased followed by re-installing the current firmware version, which is 2.2.

After 2.2 is re-installed, you will be prompted to restore your iPhone from your iPhone's backup, which is created and maintained by iTunes. This is the default selection. Your iPhone's backup is updated if needed as the first step during the sync process. There is another selection to restore your iPhone as a new iPhone, or not from your iPhone's backup.

This must be followed by a sync to re-transfer select iTunes content including apps, photos transferred from your computer to your iPhone, and if you sync contact info, calendar events, and bookmarks with a supported application on your computer.

Your iPhone's backup includes data such as most iPhone settings, email account setting, SMS messages, notes, recent calls, call favorites, photos captured by your iPhone, 3rd party app settings and any data created and stored by a 3rd party app, and contact info.

As already provided, the iPhone is designed to be synced with a supported application on your computer for contact info. Not a good idea to depend on your iPhone's backup for this data along. Contact info is not stored on your iPhone's SIM card.

This firmware has made things horrible for me. Mainly calls and text messages. Before this my phone worked perfectly! Now I'm ready to pull my hair out over it!

Text messages hang when I send them. The status bar for sending will move along nicely and then at about 90% it stops and sits there for sometimes over a minute and then it either sends or give me an error and I have to try and send again.

Phone calls will not end properly. When I hit END CALL it sits there and states "Ending call" and will take a minute or so before it will end the call. The call is actually over as the other person has hung up already but it just sits there like it's having a hard time responding.

What do I do about this? Report this to apple? How? I see no email forms to send them emails.

thank you, I left feedback. I doubt going into a store will get me any where with firmware. Sounds like I am stuck w/ it until they patch it.

I just purchased two iPhones for a family plan and this isn't the experience I expected to have after owning for two weeks. All this talk about how great Apple OS is makes me wonder what is really so great about it if they can't get a simple firmware upgrade done proper. Google 2.2 iphone and read how much issues people are having. It's uncalled for.

We did not upgrade the firmware on the second iPhone (THANK GOD) and it still works just fine like mine did before 2.2.

Thanks Apple. If I want compatiablity issues I have Vista...

It isn't your iPhone it is the AT&T network in the Metroplex. I had a call fail while on LBJ and then while at a Starbucks in Grapevine I had WiFi connection and speed problems on their network. Also had problems connected tech support with them (we're currently doing maintenance). It was at this point and tried to call them and could not place any calls, and disconnecting took forever. Did the usual reset, what finally worked was turning off 3G and moving to EDGE. According to them they are having a 3G network problem in our area. I personally think it was caused by not using Terrell Owens enough in the maintenance plan.
