Recently installed Leopard and coincidentally DVD Player stopped working - any advise?
Get error message as follows:
_There was an initialization error_
_A valid video device could not be found for playback._

Have DVD Player 5.0.1 and have not been able to find any other upgrade available in Downloads

*Getting my feet wet in this forums* so any help would be appreciated.

PowerPC G4, Mac OS X (10.5.4), 1.6 GHz; OS X Leopard

    Hello, Rob SD,

I have the same problem. I installed Leopard last May. In addition to DVD Player giving the error message, I find that iPhoto will not display in the edit mode -- only thumbnails appear. If I click on a photo, the edit screen is blank, but the photo is there, invisible, and can be altered.

I have spoken with several "experts," all of whom have different opinions. Rebilding the iPhoto library does not help. Some say that my video card, an ATI Rage128, is the culprit, and by installing a Radeon 9800 Pro for Mac will do it. Another pro says the video card has nothing to do with it. I'm reluctant to spend over $200 to find out that he is right.

One of them suggested downloading VLC, a nice DVD viewer program. I did that. It loads and it reads the discs' titles, but can't display any content. You might try that.

    Have you had any luck?

Same problem for me since I switched to 10.5
I also kept a 10.4 on the second partition. I tried to use DVD Player of the 10.4 installation, but it refuses to launch under 10.5
