Thank you for your reply! Could you give me a little more information about your configuration? Can I simply FireWire or USB the two together? Do I need anything beyond OS 10.5.5? Do I INITIALLY need a monitor etc. attached to the MacMini to configure it, or to start it up each time (it IS a working machine at this point)? I am computer literate; I just don't know how to get this process started. Thanks- REH
Yes you initially need a monitor, keyboard, mouse so you can configure Mac OS X, enable file sharing, enable screen sharing, enable remote login, etc... NOTE: You might be able to put the Mac mini into Target mode and treat the Mac mini as an external disk to another Mac. Maybe you boot the other Mac using the Mac mini's disk as the boot disk and do all the configuration from the other Mac. However, borrowing a monitor, keyboard, and mouse for an hour would make your life a lot easier.
Once you have Screen Sharing enabled and working, you can do just about everything else via Screen Sharing, and never need a monitor, keyboard, or mouse again, until maybe the next major software update (Mac OS X 10.6). Then you might need a monitor, keyboard, and mouse for a few hours.
I use TCP/IP connections. In my case I have my Mac mini connected to my home router, and via that I can access it from any of my computers at home.
It is possible to enable TCP/IP over Firewire. This is configured in System Preferences -> Network. However, I *DO NOT HAVE ANY EXPERIENCE* with TCP/IP over Firewire, and I do not think a lot of people actually use it, so you are going to be on your own making it work. Personally I would just connect your Mac mini to your home network and gain access that way. Besides if you have gigabit ethernet that is faster than Firewire.
To the best of my knowledge you cannot use USB to connect the 2 systems.
