iTunes wont recognize iPod

Im a problem with my 1st generation touch.

It worked yesterday and now my iTunes wont recognize it. I've tried all USB ports, and I have done the service management but it does nothing. My iPod recognizes being connected to the computer but the iTunes wont recognize it.

My computer recognizes it, it treats it like a camera like usual, but now it wont recognize it. It was fine yesterday then i updated to 8.0.2 and now it wont work.

I went to my friend's house to see if it would work, it recognized it, updated it, and wanted to sync to his library.

What is going on?

Same problem here after itunes 8.2 upgrade; the touch is not recognized except by windows scanner and camera app which thinks it's a camera named aplleipod;
I've tried re-installing itunes 4 times with no success/resetting touch/didn't work.
My other ipods: nano 2g and 3g work fine.
Is it possible the drivers for the touch were wiped out by the itunes upgrade???

got it;
download itunes and rather than run it, unzip it to a folder; run applemobilesupprt install only which will ask you to remove or fix, remove and re-install it.
go to windows sys32/drivers; scroll till you find the USBAAPL.SYS driver. Copy it.
now go to windows inf and paste it inside that folder. re-start itunes then plug in your touch; Itunes should see it and it should tell you of an upgrade 2.2 install if you wish and there it is.
My touch is working fine now, however it took the better part of hours and hours of research to get this done.
I'm not taking credit for this, for that fix check out the person's blog who came up with it and here is the link http://www.boppled.com/?p=168

apple knows there is a problem, both iphones and itouchs will not sync with 8.0.2
i have tried literally everything, but i will probably have to wait until apple fixes the problem

That is not true. You can sync multiple iPhones and iPods with the same computer running iTunes 8.0.2 as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1386

me10lee83,
If your iPod touch is not recognized by iTunes in Windows, try the tips in the third article Graham linked. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1852

What security software is running on the PC? Security software could cause an Apple Mobile Device Support installation or launch issue.

Try to update or reconfigure the security software and then reinstall iTunes.
