No sound using Safari on youtube videos

Hi all,

I have a new macbook (my first mac) and using Safari I do not get any sound when viewing videos on youtube.

The sound works fine with itunes and garage band.

I have tried dragging the com.apple.audio.DeviceSettings.plist file to the trash, emptying the trash, and rebooting with no luck.

I've also searched threads without any luck there either.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Scott.

I have a Mac Mini that has the same problem. It works fine on iTunes, etc, but sound from Safari is very very faint and garbled a bit. I have a lot of amplification in my output chain, so I can barely hear it with all of it turned to ridiculous levels. I have seen other posts about starting Garageband and Audio MIDI Setup with no luck. My youTube level is all the way up, and it also does it from an mp3 file streamed from a web page. The Audio MIDI Setup screen has the little sliders in the lower right all the way down, but grayed out so that I cannot turn them up. This seems to be the way to fix it, but they are inactive.

I also have a Firewire device hooked up (Presonus Firebox), but that will not play it either (also works with iTunes fine).

There are a lot of instances of this on the web. What is the deal, Apple?
