Ad-Hoc Ethernet

Is there a way I can connect 2 Macs (White MB and Unibody MBP, both with gigabit ethernet) to each other with an Ethernet Cable? I have to transfer a pretty large file, and this seems to be the fastest connection.

I can just transfer through WiFi, but that's too slow, and my router is only 100mbps, and target disk mode requires a restart for one of the computers.

If I can't do this, then obviously TDM is the way to go, but I'm sort of curious if this is even an option at all, as a Mac geek

Unibody MBP 2.53, Mac OS X (10.5.5)
