Problems downloading iTouch 2.2 Update

So I've tried downloading the new 2.2 update for my iPod touch about 7 times and everytime the download appears to be finished a notice pops up saying that there was an error downloading the update and the connection timed out. My internet is working just fine and I can sync my iPod... it's just not updating.

My iTunes is the current 8.0.2 edition and I tried restoring my iPod but it won't let me. For some reason I have to update it before I restore it.

What am I supposed to do?

I was having the same problem as the original poster. It was solved by temporarily disabling my computer's AV software. As soon as I did that, the download completed and installed.

Same exact problem. I've searched everywhere on here, and cannot find a solution. I paid for the update, but the same thing popped up for me about not having permission.

add another person to this list, same problem.

im sure it is a problem on their end.
they are probably getting overloaded w/ people that are trying to update their ipods

Hi all ,

Recently i have updated the itouch with latest software 2.2.

I too faced same problem but then i tried with other method IT WORKED>....!!

The best solution is, if your itouch is latest model. then you can visit this page
http://www.apple.com/ipodtouch/softwareupdate.html and just click on "upgrade now" after connecting device to comp(Before doing this itunes latest(8.0) should be installed)

I am sure that your data will not be lost only if you itouch is a latest model.

Apple will refund us if say I downloaded this like more than once?
It's not like i grow money off trees!
X'mas miracle if this was solved tmrw, I'm going into the store to ask a genius pre-shopping. Post answer if found.

Aha! True, It took me like 10 months to convince myself to actually spend 10 dollars on an update I really don't need besides SAT help.
Now I wasted 10 bucks. Eff this!

Same here.
I've tried the solution about downloading update manually, Itunes says have already paid for version 2 (Correct) so the download is free. It goes through the motions of downloading, but nothing happens. I have just changed to a brand new computer, so it ia fresh install of itunes (I could never get that to update anyway) and my ipod has re-synced ok) I have not yet got any AV installed (Next on the list), so that can't be the problem

I have this problem too in that it says the required resourse is not authorised (or what ever the phrase is). My software version is 1.1.5. DO I have to upgrade to 2.0 first? If so how.

Some advice please........

I have tried literally ALL NIGHT here on the East Coast with no success. I am heading down to the Apple Store this afternoon to get THEM to install it. Surely they will have the update on some machine. If not, then perhaps they can exchange mine for one already updated. Good Luck to all, and to all a good night 🙂

That's the only way to get it fixed apparently...go down to the Apple store and have them load the upgrade. I talked to Apple support this morning, and that was their suggestion. Called the closest Apple store, and they are aware of the problem, but that's about all they could tell us. We've got an appointment for Sunday...they were completely out of appointments for today and tomorrow...evidently you will need one if you want to get this fixed.
