MacBook Pro screen blinks

My new MacBook Pro display screen is blinking or flickering every few minutes now. I've only noticed it when I've switched to the integrated 9400M graphics processor. I don't recall seeing any blinks when using the discrete 9600M GPU. Usually it is only the top half or so of the display that blinks or flickers for a split second. Anyone else having the same problem?

I have a case open with Apple on this issue. I am so glad I did not put my old mac book on Ebay. They gave me two apps that would collect my system configuration which I sent back to them a week ago. We still have not heard back from Apple engineering on this which is kind of concerning to me to say the least. I also saw the announcement of the new MAC Pro and will not buy one since I see that it has the same mini-Display port and will require the same Dual-Link DVI adapter as well as the same type of video card. Get ready for more problem reports and posts on this issue. I will be sure to pass on the results of the Apple Support Case as it unfolds.

My MacBook is back from repair. News are not promising, unfortunately.

The whole display incl. bezel was replaced with a brand new one.

Since that didn't solve the problem, they went on and replaced the whole logic board.

Screen is flickering exactly like before. What can I say. I was without my brand new MacBook for almost a full month while it was in repair and I got back a machine which has most of it replaced with new parts, has the top lid about 1 mm from the original precise position.

I think this will be a software thing still and it'll get fixed one day. Either this affects great many users and most of them don't notice or care that much about the flicker or it's just bad luck. Of course being without my mac for a month was a lesson in itself. 😟 Anyway, just my report on things... Hope others have had better experiences.

One positive for a 'happy end': I had a dead pixel, now I've got none. 😉

I believe my flicker issue on my Unibody Macbook Pro has been fixed. The Apple Store replaced my LCD (which did not solve the issue) and then replaced the Logic Board. This seems to have fixed the issue. I am no longer seeing any flickering when using the 9400 graphics card as I previously was. I have only been using it a few hours, but so far so good. I'll post back if anything changes, but you can assume a new logic board fixed the issue!

I don't know if this is the same issue, but when I connect my unibody mbp to my Benq 24" external monitor i experience dropped frames (especially noticeable with mouse, trackpad movement and video playback). This is an issue with 10.5.6. 10.5.5 doesn't appear to be a problem. Disconnecting mini-display port to dvi adaptor resolves issues immediately

I get the exact same thing. My 2 weeks old MBP has now frozen 3 times, with the audio going on loop, and the only solution being a restart. The first time it was while working on a lot of graphics in photoshop, but the two last times the only app open was mail. I have been using the slow graphics card so far, but will change to the fast one today, and report if I see it again.

In some ways I am glad to hear that others have the same problem, but sad to hear that apple stores world wide apparantly doesn't know what to do with it...

I responded to this topic a month or so ago with an occasional intermittent blinking that would occur, then nothing. I'm still experiencing that problem. I can go for two weeks, then all of a sudden it will occur, then nothing.

Since I run around my office all day use my battery a great deal, I use the 9400M almost exclusively.

Just wanted to report back on the problem. Sorry to hear this is so severe for so many others.

hi,

I have also the display flickering problem with a brand new Unibody 2.66 , 15".

I change it 3 time, and i still have the problem.

This appear with the 9600 M GT Video card when the brightness is under 5 points.

On battery and AC Adapter.

I called Apple, I had a Level 2 technician who recovered all the informations off my machine and all the system logs (and other things) with a software called Capture data (sent by mail)

(I encourage you to do the same)

They do not yet know what is happening 😟 and at this time refer the informations of customers affected to the engineers.

Hope we will get a solution soon.

I do not want to change again and again my machine ...
This, take my time, and i need it.

I had my logic board replaced to solve the screen flicker issue since my computer was customized. All seemed good fore 2 days but now my computer wont turn on. It just makes loud beeps every 5 seconds or so. Back to the apple store tomorrow. But on the plus side the screen flicker seemed to go away with the logic board replacement.

Hi, I seem to be having the same problem as A R M mentions above.

I've had my 15" Macbook Pro for about a month now (bought brand new from the apple website). It had been working fine, until all of a sudden last night I discovered this problem.

To recap, essentially what happens is these little blue lines and dots seem to appear all over the display, running vertically. As well as this, the screen is flickering a lot. I'm not doing anything intensive with the macbook, simply surfing the web or doing nothing at all, but it does this immediately upon start up.

Fortunately I haven't experienced the black bar problems that some of you mention, not yet anyway.

Any suggestions, help or advice would be greatly appreciated. I am a complete Macbook n00b so plain english would be greatly appreciated! Cheers 🙂

I wanted to bump this up to the top. I have a 15" Unibody, and when the screen brightness it set to below half, the screen strobes. When I turn the brightness back up, it goes away. It also doesn't happen if I switch to the dedicated video card.

This is really frustrating and I am on my 4th Macbook Pro. They just replace it every time I bring it in to the Apple Store. The first one didn't seem to have this problem, but the speaker buzzed horribly. Apple was great and is sending me a free set of M-series speakers for my trouble. What I would really like though, is for my $2000 computer to work properly. I am kinda disappointed that I upgraded from my old Macbook Pro. It worked flawlessly.

Anyway, the 17" crowd got their fix(hope it is working out for you), lets get this thread going so maybe we can get our fix!! I know...people say they don't check these forums...but I think they do. I also have an open ticket. Cover all bases.
