Q: MacBook Pro screen blinks

Scientifically certainly, but this is not my eyes, and my eyes are still perfect.

Definitely not the C85 has the quality of Philips screen.
Too washed out.

I can change this MBP again if i am not satisfied again, in the 15 days (the 5th) ...

I just try to know if the blinking, flickering, strobe effects's problems are only a question off display panel or something else.

Because i have no flickering on the C85, but i really prefere the color and brightness off the C84, with which I had so much flicker problem.

Finally, All these MBP rev A have problems of compliance with quality control.

my experience:

84 had flickering (now the 4th machine)
85 had light.leaks at the bottom! (2 machines)

but i liked the 85 more for the color and the brightness

What is that ? I have no Light leaks on my C85 !
Had you reset the SMC ?

Don't you think that, this display is a little faded, as if there was a veil a little dirty?

Did you calibrated your 85 volvr ?

If yes, can you share your favorite icc profile please ?

I've done some research on the blinking-issue.
Maybe some or even all aspects are mentioned above, but I hope it helps though.
Here is what I found out:

- I discovered the flickering about two weeks after I have bought a Pro (9C84-screen). Possibly it was there before and I didn't noticed it.

- Mac started without flickering screen -> Flickering occurs after waking it, even if just the display was turned off.

- switching to the other graphics-card cures it (often not for long, but sometimes for one hour or so)

- reset SMC cures it (it lasts for about half an hour yet)

all youre saying is the problem can be solved temporarily (it doesnt work for me, anyways)... and?

who cares about a temporary solution. the product have a serious defect and to me it appears it is all of them no matter what screen (84/85) is built in.

for 2000 euros you dont want a machine you have to logout/login every 20 minutes.. lol that really makes me laugh..

Just coming on to post a quick update:

I've had my Week 11 (W8911) MacBook Pro for almost 2 weeks and I must say I have had no problems whatsoever with it. My 9C85 screen has been and is continuing to be flicker free, I am not seeing any LED light leakage from anywhere around the screen, the colors, in my opinion, are far truer than the 9C84 screen. Contrast seems to be good, and the brightness is bright and acceptable. I was able to calibrate my screen to an optimal condition using an X-Rite ColorMunki Design calibrator.

FINALLY! I have been very pleased with this screen and MacBook Pro....

I've had my share of bad luck with the 9C85 screen, late last year, through about JAN, with light-leakage galore. Since late JAN I have been getting 9C84 displays with the MacBook Pro's I have received and ultimately returned with constant flicker on most of them, all with horrible, uneven backlighting. I am beginning to think Apple internally acknowledged a the problem with the horrible light-leakage with the 9C85 screens and figured out a way to fix and overcome the problem. Hopefully the same will happen with the 9C84 screens sooner rather than later.

I understand Apple may not be fully accountable for this problem, as the issue lies, it seems to me, with the LCD manufacturers. I just hope Apple and the LCD manufactures get their act together and get this horrible QA with the displays under FULL control. I find it completely unacceptable that it has taken me almost 4 months and wasted-countless hours of my time, to get a decently looking display. If it weren't for my patience and persistence, and love for Apple, I would have already switched to a Lenovo.

The SMC-reset worked to the next Sleepmode/ Shutdown. It's just a temporary solution, and you are absolutely right that it does no good in the end.
In the other thread somebody annouced, that apple is working on a solution. I'm taking this as a sign of hope. At moment my macbook is the only computer I have, so I don't want give it back and wait for an replacement, as long it is not sure, whether the problem is solved.

Yep... it's not an SMC rest issue - you have clearly been chatting to Apple Care.

The problem really doesn't seem to be fixable. I suppose they could fix it with a software fix in 10.5.7 or some other firmware update, but for now the ONLY solution seems to be to send the machine back and get a replacement. I have just arranged for the 4th machine to be returned. The lady I chatted to said she had never known someone to send back 4 machines before, so I told her to check out this forum!

Thankfully, Apple's returns are quite helpful, but it is getting quite tiresome for me.

It's interesting though, the problem only seems to manifest itself after several days of use (3-4 typically). I am just hoping that the 5th mac (currently on an assembly line in China) has the 9C85 screen...

I had so far 4 flickering 84 screens
and 2 85 screens (non flickering) with light leakage!


hopefully the book which arrives at 14th of april will have a 85 screen without flickering

At the moment, after changing 5 machines, my last one with C85 seems to run ok.

This is really a stroke of luck, because there is no evidence that this only a problem of screen, and if so, which one exactly.

I hope Apple will find a solution as soon as possible and do the housework with Display's Providers . Because for the moment it is really a bad joke.

I know dozens of people who changed their machines at least 4 times!

I hope there will be an exchange program set up soon . I do not believe in a software solution.

received my new mbp today...with a 85 screen.

lets see how it works in batterie.mode and with low brightness!!!
