I am finding the Tap to Click feature on the trackpad way to sensitive. I dont see any way for it to be adjusted. I find myself "clicking" no matter how softly I put my finger on the trackpad. Has anyone else found a way to lessen the trackpad sensitivty for "Tap to Click"

Did you ever figure this out? I haven't gotten a working answer from anyone. My trackpad selects things when I'm not even nearly touching it; the cursor is just hovering over something. It's driving me crazy. I constantly have to monitor where my cursor is if I don't want it to think I clicked or dragged.
Did you install the trackpad firmware?
I have a new 13.3" 2.4GHz MacBook and have the same complaint about the trackpad as the comment at the beginning of this thread in 2005. The saleswoman at the Apple Store thought there was (or is) a setting in Preferences for trackpad sensitivity, but I can't find anything.
Same problem here. Trackpad on my new MB 13" is way more sensitive than any other MacBook or PowerBook I've owned. Items are clicked even if I'm just hovering over the trackpad. Very annoying. I've turned Tap to Click and the click drag and other functions off for the first time in years on this machine and I miss them.
I wish they had kept the 'click' a separate button, I know it costs a bit more, but it's worth it.
I found that after I had adjusted the tracking speed and scrolling speed slider settings downward a bit in the Trackpad system preferences panel, the sensitivity issue was resolved. Give that a try - worth a shot. Seems to be fixed for me now... 🙂
I know this might be of help but I was worried it was too sensitive as well until I gave it a few weeks. Now I am adjusted to it and find it to be just right and by not having to "bang" on the touchpad, I feel I am saving it from excessive wear and tear.
Yes... firmware installed and still TOO sensitive
NOPE.. I havent . I did call Apple and their response was they hadnt had much feedback on this.. but it sure looks like a lot of folks are havin problems with it..
My laptop is now 2 months old I and still find the "Tap To Click" feature much too sensitive.. I am hoping somewhere down the road there will be a sensitivity feature added to the trackpad prefs...
I've been having the same issues. I'm choosing items I haven't double tapped on, deleting mailboxes accidentally, highlight text I don't want, etc. I agree with the person who said it seems like the trackpad is selecting even when just hovering. I've been using iBooks, MacBooks, etc. for more than 10 years and this is driving me a bit batty.
I've just tried adjusting my scrolling and tracking speeds. Anyone have additional advice?

I also have a 13in aluminum macbook which I purchased for email and notes while traveling (replacing a much larger thinkpad). To that purpose the over-sensitivity of the trackpad has greatly reduced its value to me. Stray touches often misplace the cursor and cause me to be typing in the wrong location. Like others I was told in the apple store that I could adjust the sensitivity - which is true only of the older macbooks. Even typing this short note is an agony of corrections.
I was also told by an Apple technical specialist there was a feature I could setup in universal access where I could setup mouse keys and ignore the trackpad when mouse keys was on. This also does not seem to work.
I called Apple technical support and talked to a senior engineer who had heard of these complaints but could offer no solutions. The only solution I have is to tape paper over the trackpad.
I'd love an application which could have a hot key to turn the trackpad on an off. Does anybody have any solutions? (I have already tried adjusting the various settings for the Trackpad)
