Sony Z1 straight to an External Hard Drive??

Is it possible to miss out the Mac and Record straight from the Sony Z1 onto a Firewire Hard Drive, Using the Firewire port on the Camera.

Or is there another way to record straight from the Z1 to an external Hard Drive??

Macbook Pro 2.5GHz, Mac OS X (10.5.5), 512mb GPU - 4GB RAM - 250GB HDD

No it is not possible but if you are using FCE or FCP you can specify your external Hard Drive as a scratch disk and capture your video straight onto it.

It depends on exactly what you mean by +"record straight from the Sony Z1 onto a Firewire Hard Drive"+

If you have already recorded a video to tape, you will need an application like iMovie, Final Cut or QTPro to capture the video from your Z1 and store on a hard drive.

If you are shooting live, you have the option of using a device like the nNovia QuickCapture or Focus Enhancements FireStore to record directly to hard disk in real time.
