Camera not working, black screen

Hi,

when i use my camera, all i get is a black screen, and the camera button is not active. The aperture shutter comes up when i activate the camera, but when i open it, the screen is black, and the button is non responsive. Everything else on the phone works fine, and the camera did initially, I only noticed the problem this evening. Anyone got any ideas?

I've done both a reset and a restore by the way, didn't make any difference.

PowerBook G4 1.5GHz 1.25 GB, Mac OS X (10.4.11), iPhone 3G

Just to update, this morning the camera seemed to work for a few minutes, albeit not properly. I managed to take 4 pictures, one of which was blurred, with a green line down the side, and the other 3 all turned out completely green. Now it appears to not be working again.

Same thing is happening to me...the camera worked fine until about 2 weeks ago, now it won't take pictures. When you press the shutter button, the aperture picture comes up on the screen, but no shot is taken, the shutter sound doesn't happen, and the application closes, returning to home.

I've just spotted the same problem with my iphone. Maybe something to do with the 2.2 update? Has anyone managed to solve this problem yet?

I'm having the same issue. Camera screen is black, button is unclickable. Started about a week ago. Not sure if this is related, but 2-3 weeks ago I downloaded the Stereo Maker app, which resulted in a similar problem (but with a warning about not enough memory to take pics); I deleted that app and rebooted. Camera worked fine afterwards until last week.

i update a second iphone but there is no problem with the cam.working nomal and good.
is it software or hardware problem??????????

Has anyone found a fix for this as yet?

One of my users has given me his phone to fix after he couldn't take any more photos as it was saying it was full (it obviously wasn't though). As I had it, I thought I'd upgrade it to 2.2 and now the camera won't work at all!!!

I have the exact same problem 😟 the screen is black, and the button is non responsive but everything else works perfectly. I thought it was cos I accidentally dropped it onto a carpeted floor. Not sre what to do with this, should I just take the phone back to Apple??

I just tried a full erase and restore of my iphone, but alas the camera still doesn't work. I'll need to make an appointment with the genius bar @ Apple next...

Hi just to let you all know I called Apple support this afternoon and they got me to do a soft reboot which is holding down the power and home button at the same time till the Apple logo appears and this sorted the problem!

I thought 'oh here we go just troubleshooting' etc but it worked! I've got my camera back and I'm thrilled. Hurray! 🙂

Neither the soft reboot nor the full restore have worked for me. I think the time has come to bring it back to the shop!

Interestingly though, while I can't say for certain that this issue arose from update 2.2, it certainly happened around that time...

Hi, a quick update for everyone. I backed up my iphone, and made an appointment with the genius bar at the Apple store, who took a look at the phone and offered a replacement unit, which I accepted. It's slightly dissapointing as the original phone worked great apart from the camera, which I suspect was a software issue.

I have spoken to 02 in England today about this problem. They told me that Apple have told them that a few phones have this issue. A soft reset will not resolve the problem. They are sending me a replacement telephone. Good Service and a resolution with no headaches. Full marks to 02 and Apple though it's a shame somebody didn't inform the Forum.

The soft reboot worked for me. Thanks! My camera stopped working two days ago. I thought it was because I had dropped it, but everything else worked fine and I could still take a picture of my desktop. Now hopefully it stays fixed.
