How can I connect Classic II to the internet?

How can I connect Classic II to the internet?

I have an ATT DSL modem/router.

Can it be done? If so, how? It has been so long I forgot how to connect this computer to the internet. Yes I know there really was no WWW back then, but I could connect to the old BBS out there. So I know it can be done. But how??

Are there still modems out there that will let me connect to the internet that will work with this fine old Mac?

thanks,

If possible I would go with Jan's suggestion of dialup since the other way may be a bit more of a challenge in terms of finding the hardware to do it with.

Basically you will need an Asante of Focus SCSI to ethernet adaptor, it plugs into the Classic II's ethernet port and is then connected to your router via 10T. Oh and there was another version from Farallon called Etherwave which went into your mini din modem port and took power from the ADB port (even more rare). But I've used these bits to get Classics, and PowerBook 100's on the internet albeit slowly.

Here's someone's webpage that shows the Asante device, http://geektechnique.org/projects/asante.html

One plus with Asante is that they still have the drivers online for their products.

Another way to connect for File Sharing would be through an AppleTalk/LocalTalk to AppleTalk-over-Ethernet Bridge device, such as the AsanteTalk or EtherMac iPrint LT. This would let you establish a File Sharing connection from any Mac running 7.5.3 through 10.3.9 with another Mac running 7.5.3 through 10.3.9. Extending it at one end of the software spectrum or the other can be done, but is more work.
