Microsoft office application will not open

I've tried uninstalling, re-installing and updating my microsoft office however every time I try to open any of the applications, for instance on my bottom bar the icon just bounces a few times but never opens. It does this for all the office applications anywhere I attempt to open them from on my computer. There's no error message or anything that comes up it just does nothing. I have a mac book pro and Mac OS X 10.4.11 (8S2167) version. It's been doing this for about a month.

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions...

Since you are running 10.4.11 you need to post in the Tiger Forum

Make sure your Microsoft software is up to date: http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.mspx

Run Disk Utility and Repair Disk Permissions. Disk Utility is here: Applications/Utilities
Launch DU, select MacintoshHD 10.x.x in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab and then click: Repair Disk Permissions. Do this every time you do any software updates!

I am having a similar issue after upgrading OSX. I have been using Microsoft Office X for a couple years now with no problems and all of sudden this weekend, it won't open on my iMac. I have run all the disk utilities and virus/macros cleaning programs possible. The computer is clean and all the hardware and files seem to be in perfect condition. This is a strange situation. I can't open the application from the application icon on the dock or in the application folder. However, I can open an existing document and create a new document from there. I have also tried the new user approach as well with no success. This only appears to be happening with the Microsoft applications, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Entourage and I have already been to the Micosoft website only to find out that there are several others with the same problem. All applications are updated and permissions are correct. I am posting the error information that I receive and would be grateful for any other information on fixes that I may have missed. My next step is to start over with an operating system reinstall and I really don't want to do that. Also, the programs are working fine on my new Macbook running the same OS. Thank you.
