Take Account Online - Mail Account Locked

I keep getting my one account taken offline and when trying to access it, Mail states that the account is locked (busy with another mail client). Well, the only clients I have are Mail itself and the iPhone. Are these two clients locking my mail account and if so, how do I work around this? I want to use email from the phone and home computer.

Exact message is:
The mail server denied access to the account “Bellsouth” because an administrator or other mail client was using it when Mail tried to log in. Please try again later.
The server error encountered was: account busy (locked by another POP3 process)

Mac Pro 2.66 dual with 5 gig of memory, Mac OS X (10.4.7), 23-inch HD Cinema Display, LaCie eSata 1 gig

I have the same problem, and I'm also on Bellsouth email. Were you able to find a workaround for this?

I hesitate to report this to Bellsouth/ATT/ATT Wireless, because that is usually an exercise in futility which takes hours with no result.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
