Spaces and CS4

I use a lot the Spaces feature in Leopard.

I have big issues in using them with the Adobe CS3 and CS4 (wrong spaces, blank files, missing window frame etc etc).

I asked Adobe and they said they do not "officially" support Spaces and to ask Apple.

So, has anybody found out a solution to improve the usability of the Creative Suite with spaces?

Hello,

Try using Stacks instead:

Create a stack
Put a folder in the Dock to create a “stack.” A stack can be a handful of documents, a group of applications, or a set of folders—anything you need to access frequently. When you want to see a stack’s contents, click it. Stacks spring open from the Dock in an arc or a grid, depending on the number of items.

Spaces is an OSX application that in effect allows you to have multiple desktops with multiple windows open in each desktop that you can quickly jump around to. Making his files into stacks would allow him to quickly open the files he needs, but that would still involve closing and opening the different applications, which is the purpose of using spaces. With spaces you can have all of your documents open and just jump around to the different desktops that have the work you want on them, as well as other windows, maybe a few photo browsers or some such.

This solution doesn’t work - Photoshop and Lightroom are still not reacting when trying to trigger them via a click on the icon or ⌘+TAB.

Matter of fact I deactivated Spaces due to this incapability. Now I'm on CS4 and at least it’s getting usable and it seems to work a bit better - not very comfortable, but usable. Both apps have their problems when getting triggered out of other Spaces they won’t react sometimes. Now you can at least use your direct shortcut to Spaces (default: F8) to access Lightroom. But it’s still far from perfect.

Adobe + Apple Spaces = not compatible -> see this old statement for CS3,
I guess it still counts.

That defeats the purpose of using Spaces in the first place. Setting an Application to "Every Space" just clutters it upon others.

I have PS in one Space ,Lightroom in another and Firefox etc in the rest. Ideally so I can have dedicated work spaces for each.

I'm also frustrated with PS and LR not fully intergrating with Spaces.
And I'm using dual screens, which makes it an even messier affair.

Seeing as there are reports of other Applications such as MS Office having the same issue. I guess it's Apple that should sort this BUG out. Simply, if you select an Application (in particular by Apple-Tab) the WHOLE Application should present itself in it's dedicated Space.

Please fix it Apple!

It seems most of you are asigning apps to particular space, here is the way I use it

My setup:
I have mostly like 6 spaces and each I keep for separate project. So in one space there would be 5 open photoshop files, 3 illustrator, 2 text files and so on. Apps like Mail or iCal would be assigned to all spaces.

from this is clear, that for my usage, CS4 package is just NOT WORKING!

How much memory do you have on your system? I use spaces with CS4 all the time. My typical work flow I will have Maya in one space, Final Cut Pro in another space, shake in a third space, After Effects in a 4th space. My typical photo edit sceneario I leave Photoshop and Lightroom in the same space so I can see the library of pic's in the background I am working on. I have 9gb of memory. I can watch the use grow and on a hard days working I typically will reboot once to clear the memory cache and let it start over. If I had 16gb I probably would not have to do that. If I only had 4gb I would probably be hosed with my workflow as I typically sit in the 3-6gb of memory occupied.

I have not seen an issue with CS4 and spaces. I work a dual monitor system, with my main system 1920x1200 24" Dell and a 1600x1200 21" Dell monitors. I do have a lot of memory and that may be the problem you are having.
