Mini DisplayPort to S-Video , any possibility ?

Hello Guys !

Just bought my new alluminium macbook ( my first one ) and I am completely fascinated by it, Windows never ever again ! 😉

One little question, how to I manage to use my regular TV for watching movies / connect my macbook to it ?? Just have been in Apple Store and they told me there is no adapter available yet and they are not sure if there will be one. Anyone an idea if it works to use a normal Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter and then a VGA to S-Video one ??

Thanks for the help !

greetings from brunswick

Welcome to Apple Discussions!

DVI to HDMI adapters are pretty easy to find, and yes, that should work just fine. VGA gets weirder because many VGA displays maximize at 1024 x 768. DVI can handle 1080p pretty easily if you have that kind of TV. 1080i TVs on the other hand often don't have the resolution to give you outside of TV safe area for your computer's display, and won't show your menubar or Dock. Software such as SwitchResX or DisplayConfigX will be necessary in that event.

I'm banging my head on the wall here. Only a few months ago I bought the Canopus ADVC 55 for video capture. I decided against the ADVC 110 because the only difference seemed to be that the 110 included analogue video out, which I didn't need because I had the various adaptors for the MacBook to output to VGA, S-video/composite and DVI.

I've just bought the MacBook Pro because the new MacBook doesn't have Firewire, only to find now that I cannot output S-video at all!

Oh well, at least my main requirement is video capture or I'd be having to replace the 55 with the 110 already.
