dmg folder background picture

Hi

I'm trying to put a picture as the background for a .dmg file... sometimes it works; sometimes it doesn't... kinda want it to work all the time :1

This is what i'm doing ...

Create an .dmg via Disk Utility
Mount .dmg
Copy files (incl. picture.jpg) to .dmg
Change .dmg folder background to picture.jpg... get it the way i want it to look via Show View Options
Hide picture.jpg via terminal
Burn CD .dmg with Toast

take it to another computer... Disc opens ok but folder background is white... no picture ! My icons are setup ok, everything works except this... wasted a lot of blank CDs :[

Any ideas?

Thanks

iMac, Mac OS X (10.5.5)

What you need to do is create a hidden folder in the DMG volume, put your background image in that, then set that image as the folder's background image.

1) To start, create a folder in your DMG volume and copy your background image to it.
2) To create the hidden folder, you will need to use the Terminal. Use the "cd" command to navigate to your DMG volume (usually with "cd /Volumes/<name>").
3) Next, rename that image folder with the "mv" command. Give your folder a name that starts with "." and it will be hidden. The Finder won't let you do this, that is why you need the terminal.
4) In your DMG volume window. Make sure you are in Icon view. Select "Show View Options" from the View menu. Click the button to assign a desktop picture (I think you already know this part). Type "Command-Shift-G" to bring up a navigation window. Type the path to your hidden folder: /Volumes/<name>/.<whatever> and press enter.
You should see your image. Select it.

You're done.

Hey, thanks for your reply ....

I've now tried this way a few times ... no success - still getting a white background

i did make another image as the default... then change my .dmg to have my original image as the background... when the CD was burnt & tested ... the default image came through as .dmg background .

Ok, so make the desired image as the defaults ... burnt, tested, it reverted to white background ! Gahhh

I have no idea why this is so unreliable .
