White Screen, but iPod not dead...

Hello,
Yesterday morning I turned on my nano (black, second gen) and the screen lit up white, but nothing displayed. I though "uh-oh, white screen of death!" but, when I hit the play button, it started playing! But, still, nothing comes on the screen — just bright white. I've tried draining the power, resetting (more times that I can count), resetting in iTunes to Factory Default, etc. and nothing works. The iPod totally works, shows up when plugged in, but the screen just won't work. It lights up bright white, and that's it (and then dims after the alloted time until I touch a button again).
Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks,
Kristin.

I think this is a software glitch from the latest iTunes software. This happens to me too.. battery is fine, music is fine, coneections and restoring works ok. Once the Nano2 is switched off and on again the screen info disappears.
Apple need to investigate this and fix the problem.
Testing it today.. if you restore the original software in iTunes and do not switch your iPOD off..the screen is fine. It only occurs when the Nano is turned off and on again. The screen does not boot up properly.
I am sure my nano is fine but the software is faulty... over to you Apple!
The number of post on here show that it is not an isolated incident... come on Apple sort this out!!!!

I am totally frustrated. I have tried all sorts of options, including those listed here, with my second generation nano. I am still scrounging the net for the 1.1.2 firmware, but I have not found it anywhere.

I can listen to music fine. It mounts fine. It syncs fine, but I just have a white screen which renders it essentially a big shuffle. I love my nano. It is the perfect size, and I prefer it, by far over my iPod 5G and my iPhone, for working out and other activities. I really cannot justify the money for a new one and the supporting peripherals that I have for mine. So, I would love to get it back to life, but I really think it may be hopeless. ;-( I am open to any ideas at this point.

My son is having to same problem with his 3rd generation. As we were searching this site the screen came back on but it looks like it got wet around the edges of the screen. I know for fact it hasn't as it's been laying on my coffee table for days. The light keeps flickering and when we try to restore it we get a warning that his ipod cannot be unmounted. His brothers have the same ipods so hopefully this isn't a sign of things to come

Oh, I've got exactly the same problem with my iPod 2. generation. White screen, but the iPod works and I can listen to music. I have resetted it two times with iTunes. After the first reset yesterday, the screen worked. But today the sreen was white again and this did not change after resetting.
So, can someone help me? What can I do against that?

I'm having the same problem. About two days ago I fired up the IPod Nano only to find that the screen was all white. It plays music fine. But when I turn the Ipod on I get the white screen. Rebooting it is only a temporary fix. Restoring it to factory settings does nothing.

The plan is to keep in plugged in and visit it in a couple of days.

I too have 2nd gen ipod. It has been having the white screen of death problem for about a week. Most times when I turn it on, it gets white screen only but plays just fine and syncs fine. Sometimes hooking it up and syncing gets the menu to appear, but it quickly disappears again. Many times hooking it up results in sync but still white screen. I've tried reinstalling the software but problem persists. Reset very infrequently gets the apple logo and menu back up. Anyone else had success finding a solution? It is out of warranty - it is about 1.5 years old.
