I'm hearing impaired... I now and using my iphone for about everything under the sun... I took a nap the other day and set the iPhone alarm however, due to my hearing it didn't wake me up. I figured if i could set it to vibrate and put it in my pocket when napping it will work fine... can you make the alarm vibrate?
Susan,
Rather than using the alarm, use the countdown timer. It will vibrate when the alarm sounds.
I will say however that the vibration is not as strong as I have had on other phones, but it might work for you.
Be sure in settings>sounds you have vibrate on.
Susan - I use my alarm every single day to wake me up and it vibrates as well. Even when you have your phone "silenced" (on the side of the phone) - the alarm still goes off. Go under your settings and make sure "vibrate" is switched to on....
not meant to be insensitive to your hearing impairment... but I have decent hearing and I can't hear the iPhone or sense it in a vibrate mode with both turned to MAX.
While two separate issues, other's have commented on the poor audio capabilities of the iPhone. In defense of APPLE to some degree, much depends on your selected ringtone.
The alarm should vibrate as log as you don't have it disabled.
I do find the vibration to be a bit weak and I don't feel it sometimes. However, I noticed that if I put my phone on my mattress next to the pillow, the vibration will resonate and I can "feel" the vibration through the mattress. Maybe it's my particular brand of mattress but you can try it out. 🙂
Well I'd first like to say to Irish.. your not being insensitive at all... really I want to thank everyone for how helpful they have been... a lot of great ideas and I'm going to have to take some naps this weekend to test them (LOL, thats my plan and I'm sticking to it).
Yes the iPhone has crappy sound... my former mobile was a motorola and it was at least 2x louder then the iPhone... so that is a pain in the butt for people with any sort of hearing impairment. Mine is lifelong (so I've got a lot of coping skills I guess) and fairly severe... but with the phone on speaker and up to my ear I can hear it. (but so can everyone else... so much for privacy). Most of my "telephoning" is to my teenage daughter and all teens do is text so its not a huge problem for me.
I did download some louder ring tones or maybe they are in a range that I hear better.. one is an old fashion phone ring.. Like from the 1960's... and I can hear that most of the time unless its buried deeply in my purse. I'm hoping Apple comes out with better sound on the iPhone one day. Thanks for your help!
