1080p - 59.94 fps possible using Compressor?

Question

1080p - 59.94 fps possible using Compressor?

I'm creating animations with Strata at 1920 x 1080, 60 fps for final output to BluRay.

Is there a way to encode m2v using Compressor at 1920 x 1080 59.94 fps? In other words, can I create a m2v file at 1080p, 59.94 fps? The options are grayed out for anything higher than 720p.

No, I'm afraid not. For 1080 material, it's 29.97 or 23.98 only.

I don't think it's a limitation of the MPEG-2 format but Blu-ray discs would not be able to support the data rate required for 60 fps 1080p (or do you mean 60 fields per second 1080i = 30 frames per second?).

You bring up a good point Jon. The the Blu-ray a/v spec does allow for 59.94 fps, but as interlaced footage. I believe that's different than 29.97 interlaced, but I'd be at a loss to explain how so.

So maybe Compressor isn't to blame.

The BluRay DVD "Planet Earth" is specified as 1080p. I was always under the assumption that "p" meant just that: 60 full fields / sec.

I have an option on my Sony to change the video format from 1080i to 1080p.

If I encode the 60fps animation at 720p the animation runs much smoother, but with obvious degradation of detail.
