HP 2840 -- Printer driver only color

Have new Mac Pro. My HP Laserjet 2840 driver does not allow printing in grey scale (black and white) thus stuck at 4 ppm instead of 20 ppm and am burning through ink in all 4 cartridges instead of just one. Any get around this?

My present HP inkjet uses the black cartridge for black print and drawing only, greyscale being handled by the colour cartridge (this was a change from earlier models): so I expect you will find your laser printer uses the same technique and it's unlikely you will be able to change it using HP's driver. You could have a look for third-party drivers which might be able to fiddle the settings, but it's quite probable that the black cartridge is simply physically not designed to produce greys.

I have the same printer HP2840 and would also like the black and white driver like I have on my Win machine, but don't have for Mac. Did you find it yet?

Also, I recently am having a problem where Mac cannot find the HP 2840 and in the print job status it just says looking for printer. It worked fine for a few months and now i can't print on it. any ideas?
