Cross Over Games - LOTRO - and MacBook

Hi all. I was just wondering if someone could help me. I own a macbook but want to play Lord of the Rings Online using the CrossOver Games software. I have read that that software will play LOTRO but I am more concerned with making sure that my computer will run the game. Unfortunately, I know NOTHING about disk space/memory space/whatever. It's all Greek to me.

I was wondering if someone could help me figure out if the game will run on my computer before I ask someone to buy it for me for Christmas. It would be awful to spend that money only to find out that my computer isn't fast enough/doesn't have enough space to run it. 😟

Under my "About This Mac" tab, it says "Processor 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, Memory 1 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM"

The system requirements for LOTRO are:
"OS: Windows® XP
Processor: Intel Pentium® 4 1.8 GHz or equivalent
RAM: 512 MB
Video: 64 MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 3 or ATI® Radeon® 8500
Disk Space: 7 GB available
DirectX: DirectX® 9.0c
Optical Drive: 2x DVD-ROM
Internet: 56kbps Modem"

If anyone could help me, I would be so grateful! Sorry if my question is an ignorant one. I just don't understand enough about computers 🙂 If you need any additional info about my computer or the game or crossover software, please let me know and I will do my best to tell you what you need to know!

Thanks!

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.5.4)

Hi,

no such things as 'ignorant' or 'stupid' questions round here.

Found this http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=352617 while googling.
And as said there you might consider using BootCamp for Windows installation and LOTRO usage instead of CrossOver Games.

Before buying the game you might consider getting the free trial to check out for yourself, how good it runs in CrossOver http://www.lotrmmorpg.com/lordoftheringsonline-trial.html

Hope it helps

Thank you for answering.

The only reason I am more interested in CrossOver Games than using bootcamp is because I would have to buy windows. That would be pretty expensive, especially considering that the only thing I want it for is to play a video game 🙂

I have considered downloading the free trial (it was unavailable for a while but maybe it is back up now) but I will still have to wait until after Christmas when I get the CrossOver Games software before I can test it. I suppose I could just not open the LOTRO and do the trial first. That way if it doesn't run well, I can return the game.

Thank you again for your help!

If it is really just this one game, then it would be overkill 😉
On the other hand you have to buy Crossover Games, while BootCamp is already part of OSX Leopard.
So it might be a 'dead race' cashwise.

That depends on where you buy this game and if you can persuade the shop owner to let you do this.
To my knowledge opening the package of a game usually disqualifies it for return.
But it can't hurt to ask.

Thank you again for your help!

You're welcome anytime.

Sorry for my late reply on this thread. LOTRO is not currently supported by CrossOver, much to the chagrin of our CEO, who plays the game. The game itself runs fine under CrossOver. However, the front-end game launcher does not. This is a Bad Thing(tm). Worse, we've looked at it, and we can't figure out what's going on. Meaning it's going to take a lot of work. Meaning someone's going to have to allocate time for that. Our CEO, being responsible, is attending to CEO-type stuff, rather than hacking on the Wine code for this game (even though the fact it won't launch is ******* him off mightily). Bottom line: we want to make LOTRO go. And we're working on it. But we're not actively working on it. Wish I had a better answer for you.

Best Wishes,
