Error 14 need to restore new phone but not working

Tried to do my very first sync & something went wrong and a iTUNES & USB connector came up on the iPHONE screen. Error 14, followed 'help' right through, even uninstalling & re-installing iTUNES but still cannot restore factory settings and start again loading up iPHONE software in the restoration process. Now doesn't recognise my iPHONE as mine at all. Lots of shut downs & re-starts on both iPHONE & iMAC.

Tried everything I have read so far but at a loss of what to do now. How do I get my iPHONE restarted? The iTUNES & USB stays on screen and then eventually turns off.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Ok, maybe not making myself very clear so went back and did the 'loop' again and the error messages I am getting when plugging in to the Mac are:

1] iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes. And,

2] the iPhone 'iPhone' could not be restored. Unknown error 14 has occurred.

Is it possibly that my iPhone has no software currently? How do I restore to factory settings if it has to be done through iTunes and yet I can't use iTunes until its restored? Chicken and egg....

Hopefully this will help.

This is my first apple product since the Apple II (pc). I bought an I phone tonight and had it for about an hour when I decided to sync the phone. I went to my computer plugged the sucker in and a new version of I tunes was avail. I dld that and the was given the option of updating to the new os? Revision 2.2. When i completed the dls My Iphone froze and kept looping to try to restart itself. Error 14 was the cose i think. I went to apple support who recommended I reboot my computer. (soo helpful). Google had no answers. Searched this forum with a few hints, but nothing worked and I wasn't about to kill over 8 gigs of music rips from CDs to reinstall Itunes. So here is what I did to fix it and I hope it helps a few of you If you are getting an error or looping error.

LOOPING ERROR FIX:

1.) Sync before upgrading (I didn't so this and lost all my settings)
2.) Open the folder that has the update in it and delete the update.
3.) Restart Itunes and connect the phone
4.) Chose Restore
5.) This should re-download the update and fix the phone back to factory settings at which point you can sync and get your settings back

I think these errors are caused by corrupt data in the rather large update downloald that causes the looping beeeeehavior..

Hope this helps alll the bricks.

Hello First Apple in NZ,

I've had a long history on Windows (sorry) but I'm fairly new to the iMac and iPhone, so excuse the simplicity of my question.
I've got the dreaded Error 14 doing a restore, after having the upgrade to iPhone 2.2 fail on me with Error 6.
In your LOOPING ERROR FIX, item (2), you say "Open the folder that has the update in it and delete the update". What folder would that be? I couldn't locate anything relevant through the Finder, nor in Apple Help.

I'm suspecting corrupt data in the iPhone 2.2 download too, cos I'm on a slowish Satellite Broadband service up here in the Rainforest. The download takes 2 hrs. Anything may have happened in that time.
Thanks in advance...

Further to my question above.

1. I have now noticed that you have the "Liquid Cooled Vista Monster", so maybe iTunes on Windows makes the update file more visible than it is on the Mac? Maybe some Mac user could enlighten me?

2. As others have said that your solution works, it suggests that the Restore button in iTunes assumes that the latest downloaded iPhone software on the iMac actually made it successfully to the iPhone at some stage, which in my instance, was not the case. MyError 6 occurred at the very start of the update phase to the iPhone... just long enough to set the "I-am-a-brick flag".
