SSD (solid stat drive) compatiabilty

Did you ever find out if there was an SSD solution for the iBook G4? I am currently trying to replace my drive and I've tried a transcend SLC SSD IDE drive with no luck. 10.3 didn't like it. When I booted from the CD it said that the SSD was an unsupported volume (even though i was able to format it with disk utility and it says it's bootable in disk utility)

I too am interested in installing a solid state drive (SSD) in an iBook. My iBook is a 12" G4 (circa late 2005) running OS 10.4.11 with a 40 GB hard drive. The drive is getting full and I plan to replace it before it dies of old age. I am debating between a new hard drive (cheap, big, and vulnerable) or an SSD (expensive, fast, and durable).

Transcend makes some interesting IDE interface SSD's and the prices are coming down.

The 64 GB models would be big enough for me. They recommend the Single-Level Cell (SLC) models for OS installations, but those models are too expensive for me. The alternative is the Multiple-Level Cell models, which are much cheaper.

Has anybody successfully installed an IDE interface SSD in a G4 iBook? If so, did you use a SLC SSD or a MLC SSD? Are the MLC SSD's fast enough and reliable enough to install as the internal drive in an iBook?
