How to test headset on Mac

I just got a USB headset and want to make sure it's working. I went to SysPrefs > Sound and selected my device in Input and Output, but I don't see where I can do a hardware test to hear myself -- like you can do on Windows XP (Parallels)

Is there a way to test the headset on the Mac to make sure it's working?

Select the headset's microphone in the "Input" tab of "Sound" system preference, move the "Input volume" slider to the right, talk into the microphone, and see if the "Input level" indicator shows a signal. To test the earphones, select them in the "Output" tab. To send sound from the microphone to the earphones, use LineIn. Scroll down in:
