About three days ago I opened up iTunes and my ringtones were all missing. Even from songs that I knew were possible to get ringtones from. Does anyone have any ideas why it may have gone away? I have still been able to create a few by clicking on the song and store and create ringtone. But the whole list is gone. Thanks!
I'm having the same problem. I noticed last week when I went to create another ringtone that my entire library did not have any ringtone symbols--neither my old songs that had ringtones or even newly downloaded songs w/ringtone capability. I downloaded two songs tonight, both with ringtones, and right now only the second downloaded song is showing the ringtone. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
I've noticed the same thing within the past week. All of the ringtone symbols in my library have completely disappeared. Songs that I know are ringtone compatible. Is there a way to fix this problem.
Apple support had me uninstall iTunes after backing up. I backed up to an external hard drive. I then re-installed iTunes. Same problem. I then uninstalled iTunes and everything I could find on my computer that had iTunes in its name. I reinstalled it, reinstalled my music, and same problem. Except now I don't have my same playlists, and I seem to have upset my iPod which won't sync as it says it can only sync to one library. My iPhone will only back up, not update with new material... Any ideas?
Apple seems to think that it is a problem they can't fix without me going to a Apple store. I am getting really frustrated, and do not know what to do next! I will try to go to Apple and get it fixed there, but until then, I'm still ringtone-less...
I know this is going to sound really weird, and maybe it's just coincidental, but I just imported a CD into my iTunes library and now all the ringtone icons are back. They seem to be functional, too. As I was importing the CD, I was also connecting to iTunes radio (maybe that information is not important, but I'm trying to document the conditions exactly as they were when this happened so that someone else may be able to reproduce the results).
Again, I'm not sure if it was both or either (or neither) of these actions that caused the ringtone icons to reappear, but I'm looking at them right now. Perhaps something about the process of retrieving the CD information is what caused the icons to reappear. So if you decide to give this a try, be sure to use a CD that was purchased. Maybe you guys could try importing an audio CD into your iTunes library to see if this helps solve your missing ringtone icon issues. I'm very interested in hearing your responses.
My ringtones are back! There was an update on Thursday night which I didn't even bother to read what is for, I just updated. When I went into iTunes Friday all the ringtones were back. So maybe it was the update, I don't know.
I have just encountered the same problem. All my ringtone icons from my entire list have disappeared suddenly. No way to create ringtones...anyone have an answer? Has Apple responded to anyone with a solution?
What version of iTunes are you using? Because I've been running 8.0.2 for quite a while and there are no new updates after that one. And my ringtones are still gone! I am hoping that Apple does work on a new update soon, but as of yet I have no ringtone icons and am wondering when and if this will be fixed!
Forget it.....My ringtones are gone again!! I had them back for 3 days and then I made a new ringtone and then as soon as I finished all the ringtone icons were gone again! Guess I'll have to make an appointment at the Genius Bar to see if they can fix it.
Just putting my $.02 in so Apple can see another consumer with the same issue. I have the same issues with previously purchased albums/songs not showing the bell icon (and yes they show the ringtone option on iTunes store). Also, I just purchased a song with a ringtone option, clicked the bell to start the ringtone process, then clicked "cancel" (instead of "Buy") to see what would happen and poof! the bell disappears. Yay.
This happens every time I update Genius. I'll have new ringtones show up as icons -- but then as soon as I update Genius (or it's updated for me), poof, the icons disappear. You still seem able to make ringtones from songs, but the icons all disappear. You'd think that since iTunes wants to make money, they'd fix this glitch ...
i've been having the same problem for years. and have never been able to get an answer. Not from the genius bar, not from 'higher level' applecare... they act like they have no idea what i'm talking about, but clearly a lot of people have this problem.
One tip though- I've found that even though the bell icon is missing, I can still make songs into ringtones (assuming of course they're 'ringtonable' songs.) So if you know a song should work- it probably still does- the bell is just missing.
But with a big library, it's hard to just 'know' which songs are eligible. This is really not a minor problem, and has persisted through NUMEROUS itunes and even OS updates.
I too will chime in. All of my software (iPhone and iTunes) is up to date, but my custom ringtones have vanished from both my iPhone AND iTunes. I even went into Time Machine to see if I could find the custom ringtone files, and they are gone! 😟 I only found this problem the other day because I got a call from a friend and the stupid "marimba" ringtone went off. I looked at the caller id, and knew it was supposed to be a custom tone. I started looking and saw my custom ringtones were gone.
Same here. I recently upgraded to iTunes 8.1.1 and their are no bell icons listed on any song in my library. More upsetting is that all the ringtones I made (and paid for Apple!!!) are gone. I de-authorized and re-authorized and that did not change anything.
